Why can't we all just... get along?

I personally have a great deal of respect for cyclists. It's healthy (if more cycled my tax bill would be lower (not having the NHS care for fatties)), it's environmentally friendly and, regardless of global warming, using less oil and giving less money to the middle east is definitely a good thing... finally it's incredibly scary to pedal along a thin strip of tarmac surrounded by (predominantly) half concious people with more attention on what they're going to have for dinner than road.

Ultimately the price of fking up on a bike is very likely to be death on a busy road. So is it that surprising they get angry at careless road users?

I don't cycle. But I certainly don't rant about cyclists and personally find them less annoying than those who consistently drive ten miles per hour less than the speed limit.

OP if something like a cyclist worries you this much, then you must have a very good life! Look at it that way.

I engaged with a cyclist last year when he crashed into the back of my parked car. Does that count?
One of the usual suspects will be along shortly to explain how it was your fault.
But...... he wasn't indicating left at the time and failed to move away from the kerbside!!

Of course it must be his fault.
Who else is there left to blame??laugh

I don't think there was a headcam involved. At least I didn't see one when I scraped him off the road. I wasn't Indicating because I'd been sat there 5 minutes with the engine off in broad daylight. The first I knew of it was when the lyca-clad idiot Superman punched my door mirror.

Fortunately E39 tourings can fit a cyclist and his bike in the boot so I drove him home and relieved him of £300 for repairs. bandit

How would cyclists ever get enough confrontation to validate the use of helmet cameras if they used the road in a considerate and safe manner?

They are the same breed as the feminists that spend their free time seeking out things that offend them and dreaming up new ways in which they are oppressed.

I'd stop cycling.

I'd certainly not spend the whole time on a car forum whinging about it. laugh
Funny huh.

That's the problem. Cyclists have to share road space with other traffic driven by people who don't give a st. In your myopic view of the world I should curtail my hobby to suit people who can't respect others on the road?

Good one.

I engage with cyclists all the time, usually to give the ignorant fkers a wide berth or, if a collision was nearly caused by their utter negligence, a few choice words.

The amount of dumb bds I see using phones when cycling, running red lights, going the wrong way or just generally being ignorant sts is unreal.

The reason more and more are resorting to helmet cameras is mainly due to the standard of driving around them. It helps to have evidence if the worst should happen.

Minor point (I am both a motorist and cyclists)

Cycle Lanes/Paths- there are almost no dedicated cycle lanes/paths in the UK, they are either part of the road in the gutter, part of the pavement or separate paths which cyclists share with pedestrians- so called MUP's (Mixed Use Paths)

I see lots of militant "car users" (I resist calling them Motorists as I suspect many aren't) shouting that bikes should be on these mythical cycle paths but doubt any of them have a clue none exist.

In a town its far safer to be on the road as a keen cyclist riding 20+mph mixing with cars doing 25-40mph (in 30 limit as usual) is fairly safe, we're all going the same way on the same side of the road and obeying the same rules.

If I where to ride on a "cycle path" strewn with dog sh*t, glass and litter, weaving between drunks and people shopping and young kids and dogs zigzagging around at even 10mph you would end up killing someone in less than a day!

Some people on bikes (again- not Cyclists) ride terribly... but then many non-motorist drivers are equally bad, you have morons on Horses and driving lorries and buses, any format has its poor users.
There are more bicycles now and the number will only grow so people will have to just get used to it... better they get used to it than the government get involved because generally when they do they F**k things up :-)

If you want to do something about it, whinging about motorists on a car forum is probably not that thing.

I'm saying I'd stop cycling, because viewed on the impression PH's angry cyclist posse give of it, it doesn't sound like a lot of fun, whereas driving's great!

cycling is too dangerous and disruptive for many A and B roads. I am all for cycling becoming more popular but councils should really be deciding a lot of roads just aren't suitable for it.

Oh no it isn't. It's perfectly safe as long as the drivers are competent...

Luckily I don't base my choices on a few selfish wkers on the internet, cycling is a fantastic sport but on the roads (in the UK) you just have to deal with the mouth breathing idiots, you know the sort.......
