RE: Subaru BRZ v Toyota GT86: Delivery Miles

I was more thinking about the induction/piped in sound. It sounds like they didn't even tune and filter it like they used to do on the Z4 etc. The last focus ST has a lovely warbly induction sound despite being an inline 4. Shouldn't cost that much to develop either
I suspect Toyota are relatively unpracticed at making mundane engines sound sporty. I suspect you could make it sound different with a bolt-on few after-market bits.

.....The ride and seats at least are quite supple....
Not on the GT86 I had on an extended test! After 50 miles my kidneys felt like they had been repeatedly punched and I felt a bit queasy, and I'm only a 34" waist. It went round corners beautifully flat and steady though so I'm guessing Toyota has achieved this by cutting corners and fitting overly stiff springs and dampers. Probably this adds to the excessive road noise as well. Great for the track but horrible on long distances. Come on Toyota, with all your engineering talent and resources you can do better than this.v8s4me said:

That's surprising. I find the ride a little "busy" on the motorway, but not uncomfortable. Drove it 500 miles to the south of France last year and got out of the car feeling fine.Conscript said:

mine does a 1500 mile trip twice a year. Next week i'm doing it over just 2 days (!) and expect it to be fine. the metal is thin and the sound-proofing light, but luckily the french and spanish m'ways are smooth! True, if the surface is noisy or broken it's no BMW for sure.Parts of the concrete M25 at speed are painful in most of my cars though.
Tbf, no car will ever match your Elise on any criteria. ;-).
On a serious note, I can't understand how the GT86's ride can be called harsh. But I suspect it's the placebo influence of the NVH due to non existent sond proofing.
My GT86 has more supple and forgiving suspension kinematics than my BMW 125i(on non RFT) at any frequency. OK that's not saying much but still. It achieves flattish cornering through the superb tuning of its damping not through exacerbated stiffness of springs, which is the way it should be.

I suspect you're right. The GT86 certainly rides better than, for example, an E90 on sports suspension. People should try driving them with ear-plugs in and see if they miraculously ride better. In fact I'd go so far as to say the GT86's suspension tuning is better than any recent BMW I've driven which isn't a full-on M model.

There is another with a Tomei straight thru that is a bit loud...

I did see somewhere that someone was planning to make an unequal length one for the GT86, purely for the sound.
I'm guessing the loss of scavenging is going to cost at least 20bhp if they do. Personally, I despise the sound of four-pot boxers with unequal length headers.

From what I've seen, most UEL options are a 5-10bhp loss compared with a decent aftermarket EL manifold, but still marginally better than the standard one
That surprises me. I thought 100bhp/litre at "normal" road car RPM was nigh on impossible without scavenging. mocca said:
anyone have any experience of the auto?
Pretty smooth and seems to shift quick enough, but you can't do hard launches, as it limtis revs to 2500rpm or so when stopped with foot on brake. Easier to live with but if you're going to add more power a la FI just go for the manual as it will handle it better.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
