Interesting that the only telematics (i.e. sat nav) display is for the driver view only. Makes the dash look simpler for sure, but did audi not think that passengers might want to look at the stereo / map? smile

It may be because they're renders, but it makes me think "Lego car", especially the picture of the blue car's rear.

I'm increasingly not liking the look of it.

The blades look daft now they're not joined up.
The face looks disproportionately small - more so than the mk1.
The back is ok, but the mk1 v8 still looks best I think - this new one looks too "filled in".

Still, I'm sure it's a great car and hopefully will cause the existing manuals to hold their value a bit better smile

OMG I just saw the gear selector - it's horrible - makes it look like an SUV inside

Really don't like that, perhaps it's one of those cars you need to see in person to fully appreciate?

Quote all indeed.

So, the A5 is still the only Audi that catches my eye.

Drove an A3 saloon recently. Very very good car. Excruciatingly boring.

Also drove an S8 (D4) recently. Very nice indeed with incredible power. Excruciatingly boring.

I expect more of the same.

The "new" R8: Audi confirming to the world that the Porsche 911 doesn't have the monopoly on f****** lazy design

Echoing what others have said, this feels like a step back in comparison to the original which truly had an identity of it's own. Gear lever looks like something out of a Q7 (a car which also now looks almost impossible worse than the previous generation).

Damn shame about lack of manual too.

The old one looked quite small in the flesh compared to photos, and I thought much better looking (although 2 seater sports cars are not really my thing).

This will be better in the flesh too I reckon. but, like the article says, if you didn't like the old one, you're not going to like this either.

Did anyone actually expect the design to take a completely different direction, really?

Interior looks superb though!

Like the interior, but I think the exterior is a small step backwards. Looks less special to me, and more connected to the rest of the range.
+1, not a fan of the exterior at all, looks similar to the new TT, I don't dislike it for that reason but rather that I think the new TT looks awful, I've seen a few TT's in Aberdeen now and oddly the ride height looks noticeably high?

I would like to see a side on angle. Always looked an unbalanced design to me. It does look an improvement on the outgoing R8.

God that's stunning - shame the 'side blades' are gone now though.

Maybe it will age well, but in my eyes this is a backwards step. That rear especially looks very dull with lots of flat surfaces
This.

All that has done is actually make me like the 1st gen more! The 1st gen was a grower, so maybe this one will be, but right now I would rather have a loaded V10 1st gen.

slightly less dull than the old one but still bland inside and out.

Rear looks like a sat-on A8 rear. Front far too fussy. Interior looks like up-tarted TT.

Much prefer the look of the original.

Have I missed something, or are they not selling an entry level V8 this time round?

Always been a fan of the 1st gen but this is, to echo others, a step backwards; don't think the angular design cues will do much for it in time and would expect the 1st gen to age better. The loss of the full side 'blades' is something to bemoan too.
