With their uncommon mid-engined format and unique side blade design, these are a joy to see on the motorway. Expensive. But not outrageously so.
Do you write press releases for car companies? Or perhaps automotive fortune cookies?

I just thought we were having a bit of a chuckle; never mind, I'll try and judge the tone more accurately next time.

Not at all. I neglected to put an emoticon there, with my "hilarious." I was indeed joining you in a laugh. Sorry. A bit distracted on my end. hehe

Doesn't look as good as the old one, in fact looks more like a TT, Audi has blown it, it could have looked so good

The design of the old one has really grown on me. Its quite a subtle yet rather pretty looking thing in the correct colour scheme with fairly compact dimensions; this new one seems a real step backwards. It looks far too similar to the TT and has become too fussy and 'showy'.

Since reading the long term test in Evo I yearn for a Mk1 V10 with a manual gearbox.

I had an R8 and it always bugged me that from certain angles the glasshouse looked too big, it had a low slung waistline but also appeared to be designed for folks that liked to wear big hats. This new one looks even taller.

Exterior-wise, It's not "bad" but it's definitely more generic than the previous one, which hasn't aged a day and is one of the best looking cars of the last decade IMO. Agree with whoever said it was a shame they didn't keep the "one piece" side blades.

Which would still be cheaper than a poverty spec Huracan. smile
of course, and i am sure lambo will flog you 50k's worth of carbon trim and other options

still utterly bonkers money for both cars

it never ceases to amaze me how many very rich people there are now that the car industry can flog such huge numbers of 100k+ cars to
The vast majority are not rich-they buy them on hock. Repeat after me 'my capital is best invested elsewhere'. Truth is fk all of the owners even have 200k cash to buy one.

Why are cars getting wider and wider? Even more of a pain to park as more likely to get dinged by others plus too big for the best B roads. Is it to satisfy the "larger" customers to have more internal space? It to help with lateral grip and lap times?
Same question - what are the benefits of making the car 4cm wider? Side impact crash safety? The main thing I'd worry about with a car like this would be physical size, and the 911 is oft-praised for its compact dimensions and consequent usability. It would seem that a narrower car would be easier to use for daily driver duties in town, and also would let you enjoy quieter, narrower B-roads more.
Totally agree with these two astute commentators. Every time I've seen an R8/R10 on the road they've always struck me as looking humongously wide and potentially cumbersome on the fast and twisties. So now they're even wider?

Also, I'm curious at the number of phantasmagorically-bejewelled headlight arrangements on so many modern cars. To me they're starting to resemble women who've spent far too much time in front of a mirror applying fancy eye make-up. In fact, how come no modern manufacturer has thought to add eyelashes copied from the forty-odd year old Lamborghini Miura?

I bet you've never seen an R10 on the road. At least, not in the UK and not for 4 years or so wink

I thought the TT Mk3 was a nice evolution, and I preferred it to the Mk2/Mk1. This is very close to the the current TT, and similar to the old R8. I prefer the old R8 though, so I'm a bit disappointed they weren't a bit braver.

That rear end, especially without the spoiler, just looks dreadful to my eyes. So flat and uninspired. frown

I'm sure it will drive well, much like its predecessor, but for over £100k I'd want something that looks stunning too...

How much do VW designers get paid? I'd love their job.

Mk6 to Mk7 Golf ... change the lights a bit and the grill ... new wheels. Done
TT old to tt new ... change the lights a bit and the grill ... new wheels. Done

R8 to new R8 ... change the lights a bit and the grill ... new wheels. Done.

The Gallardo to Huracan was a lot bigger change.

I'd imagine a fair few are put through businesses and are tax deductible as a result. Makes a fair difference to the payment every month.

Plenty of people spend £100k+ on a 911 which looks far more dull than this. smile
