I'm not going to buy the bl**dy thing obvs but it's made me smile on a frustrating morning. So on that basis it's a great SOTW, more so than some of the slightly predictable choices we've had recently.
Absolutely agree. It's a bit of fun at the end of the day.

I can't help thinking that the owner looked at his wheels and thought Hmm..they resemble the American Racing Vector (IIRC) wheels on the General Lee car...scratchchin

I know idea

At the risk of appearing an idiot, why is it better to have 2 wheels at the front rather than 2 at the back if one must have 3 wheels?
Partly due to friction and gravity it's ALWAYS possible to make any car stop better than it accelerates, so you wouldn't want all your braking force reliant (geddit?) on just one wheel/contact patch.

The other way round can work very well. There was an interesting article in a car magazine many years ago that stated that a 1930's Morgan could lap the Brooklands banked circuit faster than a Sierra Cosworth, and the advantage was gained on the corners.

I remember the traffic police used to refer to these Reliant three wheelers as "plastic pigs".

That's not purely to do with wheel layout though, it's a combination of centre of mass and wheel layout:
- Reliant: weight at front, two wheels at rear;
- Morgan: weight at front, two wheels at front.
- Deltawing: weight at rear, two wheels at rear.

(Yes, I know the Deltawing has two very narrow wheels at the front rather than a single, the principle is still the same.)

Oh god this brings back memories my first 'car' was a 'british racing green'Reliant Regal, complete with spare bits of carpet evo sticked to the door cards ,my Mums face was a picture when i offered to pick her up from work in my new ride.I do have a propensity for fibre glass as i ended up in another great British marque with slightly more street cred which doesn't fall over around corners a lovely black S4s ,still get pointed at but with out (generally) the laughter.

I have actually been in one. Perhaps the most terrifying driving experience of my life. I've been involved in RTAs which are less worrying.

People say that bike riders possess a death wish. Riding a high performance bike feels positively secure when compared to the kind of 60mph weave that a Reliant can induce on even straight roads.

Surely a Chrysler 7.2 or Hemi would pull that thing to pieces ?

I think we should consider this one as a sorbet to clear the palette, so that next weeks shed can be enjoyed all the more.

I'd rather spend the money on something I'd like to drive, but it may put a smile on your face for a bit.

I've actually seen one stripped of it's mechanicals, released from it's chassis, with al holes 'glasses over, made into a passable replica of thunderbird 4 & floating along the River Wey - it was BRILLIANT & by far the best thing to do with one of these (gets them off the road, see)
