RE: SOTW: Reliant Rialto 'Dodgy Charger'
Discussion
This SOTW has brought back fond memories of a mentalist I knew when I was a teenager. His name was Patrick, he was tall and odd looking but had a good sense of humour...(well I think ihe had a sense of humour)
Patrick was from Suffolk, I think that accounted for the odd look, and he drove a Ferrari red reliant 3 wheeler. What made patrick stand out from the crowd, and it wasn't the fact he was odd looking or had a Ferrari red reliant but the fact he towed his red 50cc Fletcher speed boat behind it! Yes you read that right Partick towed his speedboat with his 3 wheeler.
To be fair neither car nor speedboat had much power. Whilst skiing behind the 50cc Fletcher monster when you where on the whip you could actually unsettle the boat to varying scarry degrees due to it's lack of power and light weight. We even had to get someone to lay on the front of the boat when you pulled away so you could get the person skiing up and out of the water and stop the boat wheeling around the lake.
We had great laughs with Patrick, the car(reaching an indicated 55 downhill one day) and his boat. I often wondered what happened to Patrick and his toys, I'd like to think he might have upgraded them to the 4 wheeled Kitten and a 75cc Fletcher, perhaps this time in some lurid Lambo colour!

I just wanted to let everybody out there know that the owner of Dodgy Charger has actually donated it to Classiccarauctions .co.uk to raise money for the Mercia MS Therapy Centre in Coventry. The first auction takes place next Tuesday the 3rd at Silverstone Race Circuit in the pit lane and is being opened by Quentin Willson. I think everybody should get behind this little car, its for a great cause and hats off to the owner for being such a charitable sport.
That's some serious lurking......PS Charity requests are not permitted (be a shame to see a ban after such an epic lurk)

http://www.classiccarauctions.co.uk/1988-dodgy-charger-fun-charity-lotWell all of you miserbale sods can take the piss all you like, i think it's class.
Serious question - how slow are these things? For 800 quid i'd happily buy it for this years trip to le mans, but not if the journey would become excruciating.
Anybody know how it'd oerform 3 up with camping gear? I can deal with "quite slow", but if i can't keep up with the motorhome i'm convoying with, it'll be more annoying than funny...

Mmm...satire
I hate these things though and laughed like a drain at the TG episode. They were also rather entertaining at the recent Live event they did in Newcastle utilising the unique properties these modes of transport possess
I do get the sense of humour though used in this SOTW. People saying "worst SOTW ever..." and the like, well, it certainly satisfies most of the terms on the t-shirt...

If it's a Rialto2 like the one in my profile then it really isn't slow. Will cruise at 80 easily and I had it over a 100.Serious question - how slow are these things? For 800 quid i'd happily buy it for this years trip to le mans, but not if the journey would become excruciating.

They are reportedly good for 120mph I st you not.http://www.3wheelers.com/rialto.html
I don't know much about these things but what I do know is ugly. A university did a study that found a direct relationship between driving a three wheeled car and being a pedophile. Can't say that image bothers me much with cars; I once owned a yellow Seicento. However, driving once of these is a step too far.
I don't know, it seems the modern PH'er is too wrapped up dreaming of 1000hp exotic machines that they'll never afford the deposit on, whilst a loveable affordable historic part of British motoring history is lambasted.....Because modern PH'ers imagine they're better than what their forefathers struggled to own.

Well said. I drove one for 18 months, every journey was fun. They can be driven at a fair lick but it is a challenge which is what makes it fun. I bet every single person here who slags them off has never driven one. Hell, in the wet you can even drift them. For me you can have fun in anything
