I've really messed up before anyone says and I've been a nob. Not sure if anyone knows the road A507 in Bedfordshire, very wide single carriageway enough for two cars to pass very easily and lots of people do it. Anyway, car slow in front and I overtake must of reached about 80mph, on coming traffic but as mentioned massive gap go through the gap and on the other side a Mobile speed camera. I couldn't see it behind the slow car but I'm kind of F**ced as passed it while just before overtaking.

It expecting a ban, but can I be prosecuted further, no one injured or accident.

Why are you expecting a ban?

Well done on not reflexively reacting by braking hard immediately following the overtake. Then you really could have had something to be sorry about.

If you do get banned, take solace in the fact that you gave someone one of the most hilarious and satisfying moments of their life in the process.

I hope they don't start using mobile cameras on the Baldock to Buntingford bit!

Surly must be dangerous driving with on coming traffic and a single carriageway, for anyone who doesn't know the road it could easily be a dual carriage on both side, no excuse, but so many people do it, truck/bus drivers will move to one side to allow you to over take.

You don't know what dual carriageway means. You also had no need to reach 80 mph to overtake a vehicle doing significantly less than 60, did you? You'll be punished for your stupidity.

You wont get a ban for that- if you're lucky they might not have even clocked you over the speed limit.
Years ago, i got clocked at 73mph in a 50mph dual carraigeway. just got £60 fine and 3 points although i know the fine's higher now. I know your case is different in that you were overtaking but i think the most you'll get is a £100 fine or speed awareness course.

I know many people on here think you're thrown in prison for dropping litter but really dont think you'd even get a ban.

PS. of course you've been daft but havent we all at some time ( well apart fom the holier than thou brigade who would have a terror attack at 71mph)

I know the road well and used to overtake as the OP described. As OP says, people do this a lot.

It is common for another car to be overtaking coming towards you too, or someone else pulls out. I treat it as a normal single carriageway road and only overtake if I have room to get past the car in front and back over to the left before meeting an oncoming car.

You'll have to wait and see OP. Doing 80 in a 60 is one thing, but the overtake may be another.

Doesn't sound like a ban to me.

Did you cause an accident? Did the other traffic have to take evasive action?

Will only get done for speeding IMO. Scamera vans don't tend to prosecute for dd, just the very dangerous act of speeding... whistle

OP was it an indicated 80? You were more likely doing 73ish.

OP: I think you're being too hard on yourself - from how you describe the road, 80mph sounds fine to me if you were completely awake, no alcohol, dry road, good visiblity etc. That would surely be far safer than a tired driver at 60mph in the pouring rain, which is surely normal for thousands of cars from 5-6pm Monday to Friday? You'll get shafted by the law, but the law isn't about common sense and road safety, it's just about numbers.

It was probably under 80, and I'm not sure how fast the car in front was travelling, it's mainly the on coming cars and single carriageway that's the problem, I assume the mobile camera can prosecute for more than just speeding, I'll happy take the speeding points. It was a stupid thing to do particularly as I know the road well but not seen a camera van of a while. I think anyone who has used the road will know how common it is, just I'm the idiot who gets caught.
