Its all about the look now rather than the speed.
I don't think that's true. 11 years ago when I had just started driving there were all types of young drivers; those who were more into posing and those who were more into speed (me being the latter, car willing - which it wasn't). I very much doubt things are any different now, or even were in the 80s come to think of it. Though, obviously I don't know.

In answer to the OPs question, absolutely. There's a road near my patents that I used to absolutely fly down, overtaking anything that I caught. 11 years on and in a car with over 460% more power (+225bhp) I wouldn't dream of overtaking in some of the spots I deemed suitable. Overtakes could obviously be completed before brows etc but anticipating someone coming the other way at speed and making allowances for that just weren't part of my though process. Terrifying really.

This is all pretty concerning - I was young once but no I didn't overtake on blind bends. That is just fking stupid, end of. The concerning bit is, the yoof of today are probably doing the same. I just pray I don't meet them coming the other way.
Just to be clear - no blind bends, but straights that I thought in those days were sufficient..... Now not so much.

It's a fact we all perceive risk differently as we get older, I had no fear of what could happen when I passed my test and admittedly drove like a tw** at times in that 1st year especially.

We also have the benefit of life experience so have a better understanding of what can happen. Oh and let's not forget that as we get past a certain age we are less likely to be slaves to our hormones.

Once I thought about it, I had a feeling that may be what was meant, still I have seen people doing it, luckily I've been out of range
