helmet on!

I've been asked to come aboard as passenger in a 2013 MX5 convertible (soft top) on a track day. It would be whilst wearing a helmet. I am 6 foot 5. Comfort only a slight consideration. Any joy do you think?

Many thanks smile

Fortunately for you, MX5s come with 93,000,000 miles of headroom, so you'll probably be fine.

Only if the sun is directly above, otherwise it is nearly infinite.

Why would you do a trackday with the roof up?

You might have to do some scooching down, but you should be ok. Get the bloody roof down though!

Not my car, and it would be in a couple of weeks, so roof up for the weather? Not sure.

He says weather and that some tracks are funny with open front helmets and open top cars?

Weather? Pah!

Some tracks are funny about open face helmets and convertibles though. Which track are you going to?

I'm 6'2" and can just about drive ours with a helmet on - pedals are a little awkward. Passengering is ok. Depends on your upper body:leg ratio I guess.

We now have no roof, just a roll cage so problem solved.

I'm 6'3 and have a mk2 mx5. I have a helmet which can be both open faced and closed. I can fit fine under the roof with the lid on in either configuration.

Your mate is right though. At Cadwell they insisted I closed the face when I had the roof down and my mate in his elise, who was hiring a helmet, was asked if he took the roof off to please swap his helmet from open to closed type.

Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated. I'm thinking more of taking my own car, rather than being passenger/driving his. I'm not in love with the idea of someone as tall as me being in rollover without a full cage! Looks like it will be Cadwell, but a couple of months away, not a couple of weeks. Anyway, info appreciated.

Not so much room at night though when the moon is up, and some of these satellites can be a real pain.
Seriously though, I'm 6'4" and can barely squeeze in to my MK1 with the roof up without a helmet
