Howdy all, simple one really, looking at a 320d (2006) touring, auto. What sort of mpg do they do on the motorway. Its to do 25k a year in. Thanks!

Got 52mpg from my 120D (2008) on a steady 200 mile motorway run, so nowhere fking near book figures if that helps.

I've got an '07 320d with the older engine (like the '06) that I do about 30k miles a year in. If you're really careful you can get 60mpg+ on summer tyres (my best is 62, which was repeatable on my daily commute from Basingstoke to Heathrow), but that's proper slow lane stuff. My more normal motorway mpg is about 48-49mpg in winter on winter tyres with winter fuel, and low 50s in summer. Curiously, mpg seems to be better at .8 to .9 leptons than at 70mph - I think it's how the swirl flaps are set (German recommended limit is 86 IIRC...); you only seem to improve mpg by driving slowly if you get it properly down to about 60-65mph (which is how I've got 62mpg). Away from the motorway I get 45-50mpg, depending on the tyres, seasonal fuel and how I drive. To drive I actually prefer it to most of the other BMWs I've had and I'll be buying another when I wear my current one out.

I hope that helps smile

Thanks all. I only want/need to see 50mpg on the motorway, at 70 to 80ish. My current is220d only does 40mpg, so 10mpg would save 700ish over 25k a year.

That's quite a way ahead of the older engine. What do you average at 0.8 leptons? I'm wondering if it'd pay me to upgrade to a newer 320d!!

My 06' 320d currently reads 34mpg combined, however a lot of my driving is through towns and in traffic.

As others have said, 50-55mpg is possible doing 60 on the motorway.

In summer I get that doing 80-90!

Whilst not quite the car your looking at, but on my 55mile round trip mostly motorway/small amount of A Road commute

My old 2005 E46 320d M47 engine 150ps 6spd manual over 27k averaged 49mpg

My current 2011 E90 320d N47 engine 181ps 6spd manual over the last 3moths 4k miles (cold temps and winter diesel) has averaged just on 50mpg (I do seem to cruise 10mph faster than the in E46 though... So upper end of safe motorway cruising!)

I had a 2009 320d touring from new, covered 90k miles in it mainly motorway miles.

Generally appeared to get 51-52mpg, did not really matter how I drove.
