I'd say a fair amount of the Bargain Barges thread would qualify well.

Probably biased as I've owned two but an X350 XJ. Last of the classic shape. Still classy enough to Look more expensive than it is, but hasn't quite depreciated to the point where you see chav'd up examples on the road. Stick a private plate and a facelift grille on a black/blue/BRG Tdvi or XJ6 and you are in business.
Failing that my vote would be Mazda 6 or Lexus IS. Smart, bland, fairly classless.

Depends on what job it was you were going for. If it were for halfords then the earlier posted fiesta would be a winner biggrin

I would not work anywhere where they considered the vehicle attending interview was part of the process
you'll also never know whether they did consider it as part of the process biggrin
I wouldn't worry about it. It's impossible to know how the interviewers feel about certain cars so don't even try. Be yourself and take whatever car you drive, I wouldn't want a job that I'd got because I'd had to pretend I was something that I wasn't.

Landrover Defender, completely classless.
Jaguar xj, looks like £20+k for as little a grand to those that know little about cars.
Mercedes E/S/CL/CLK class all look far pricier than they are.

CLS was my first thought as well, still looks like an expensive car.

I'm half tempted myself, how do they drive compared to something like an E39?

It's difficult to ascertain who the prize idiot would be!
The interviewee for imagining a car is going to influence the interviewers descision.
Or the interviewer being shallow enough to let an interviewee's car choice influence the outcome of the interview.

If this scenario is based in any kind of reallity, it's no wonder the UK's winning the race to the bottom

MGB or similar British classic. Shows you are an enthusiast, that has thought a bit out of the box, and is not someone who is a badge snob.

A rep mobile will be a bit too bland and would go unnoticed. If you want to get noticed go for the classic I would say. Who doesn't like a classic MGB, GT6, Mini, etc?

At one of the PH Sunday Service meets, a few years ago, an orange Maxi won car of the show, which in my mind says it all smile

Indeed. I'd not want to work somewhere that what car I drive defines my worthiness or worth.

Alternatively I'd wk away a few quid on a very nice pair of brown leather shoes and a decent navy blue suit.... And walk.

Or playing the game I'd roll up in a clio ,corsa etc etc. I only have £7k to spend therefore calibre of the job I must be applying for means that I'm not going to be going for a directorship at Barlcays Bank so will need to be subtitle and fit in.

Anyway the best jobs in the country are in London. You don't drive to a job interview in London wink

I disagree, what you drive can say a lot

Turn up to a Cust site in £100k car and they think you're ripping them off
Turn up to same Cust in a heap of junk and they think you're crap at your job/offer crap product as your clearly not doing well enough

Depending on the job
Turn up at interview in flash car and agreed they may perceive you as passing time
Turn up in a heap of junk and they will perceive you (naturally) as one who doesn't care. You may not but if you are going to represent a company you need to dress (wear uniform/suit) and drive appropriately (look smart and tidy)

Probably a mid range VW/Volvo or something along those lines that doesn't say much about you. I wouldn't want to turn up in a car considerably nicer than the person interviewing me usually. I did an interview once when I was 21 and wore a replica orange face Omega Seamaster to it, the interviewer couldn't keep his eyes off it. Stupid thing to do, and turning up in the wrong car could be similar (I also had a loud AE86 at the time, but the car park was big so probably wasn't noted).

Got my current job and I turned up in a new Corsa that was rented for £30 (as I couldn't afford my own car!) and no flash watch :-)

Turned up to a 2nd interview with my old 306 estate and as the boss showed me out he asked which car was mine. When I pointed it out he replied 'I assume you'll be wanting the company car option then?' Cheeky bd!

Yes but the customer/client relationship is very different from the interviewer/interviewee relationship. I've never been to an interview where the person interviewing me knew what car I'd turned up in.
