Oops, just realised I've read the whole thread start to finish (woke up and trying not to wake the missus) and seem to have replied a few times.

Brought back some find memories though and as others have said it's the mag that got me into cars at the tender age of 16 back in 92!

I used to read Fast Car and Practical Performance tuning magazines. I liked the engine tuning aspects. I never really liked Lax Bowels as it was to blingy for me and focused very little on proper tuning. If I wanted to see tarts I'd have got a porn magazine :-)

I think a lot of the car oriented Facebook groups now have the MP wannabe girls. Seen some right dodgy from the groups "official" girls.

I was 19 in 1992 and had pretty much all of the max power magazines but threw them all away years ago, this thread is making me feel old!

It's funny how times change. Getting a twitch on at because some scrubber reveals her bra whilst draped on the bonnet of a fiesta rs turbo in halfords car park seems a bit alien to me but at the time there certainly was a curious appeal.

I'm still waiting for TSW Venoms and tri-spoke alloys to make a comeback.

Back when 17" rims were considered enormous too. *sigh*

I used to buy Max Power and Redline for the back pages boxedin remember the fake interviews with the girls they used to have? "Pink or brown?"

I went to Max Power Live a couple of times, the girls were always rotten. We got the VIP tickets with an invite to Spearmint Rhino rofl

Do any Max Power readers remember Ian Birch from Dubsport with the blue twin engined VR6x2 Golf?

Caught Performance VW mag in Asda earlier today and he's done it again with a Caddy van.

As for the girls - i was an avid reader circa 1996-1999, aged 14-17 ish, plus Evo mag too - both ends of the spectrum-ish. My Max Powers were well 'thumbed'!

Does anyone know what this girls name is, she was on the cover of the Max Power Tits'N'Turbos 2003 DVD box.
No, but she'll be about 35 now, with a 3 kids and a Ford Galaxy. Doubt she'll look like that!

Ah, those were the days. I do miss the whole cruise scene. It was great! I was living in N.ireland at the time.

Everyone in the scene got wind of max power coming over to one of the cruises. That night was massive! Derry/Londonderry iirc.

I'm sure I have a couple MP videos/DVDs around somewhere. I also have some pics of some max power type ripspeed slags draped over my old GT-Four. I was the man back in the day with a £700 set of 17's! A fool and his money etc etc etc...

Blast from the past. I loved that scene! I had a modified Corsa 1.2LS (only thing I could afford to insure!) I went all over the country with my Fast and the Furious CD banging out of a truly ridiculous sound system - it used to distort your voice! biggrin I went to that many the police took note of my registration and warned me they would crush the car if it appeared there again. I was absolutely gutted, I genuinely never set a foot wrong, just turned up parked up and walked around! That was it for me though, I couldn't risk losing my car. I finished uni, sold the Corsa and bought a grown up 325i, got a job and fizzled myself out of it.

It taught me a hell of a lot about cars though, constantly taking them apart and (ahem) improving everything. I met some great people through it all (including a few very friendly young girls in tracksuits) and loved going to all the shows. It's true though, nowadays people aren't bothered, we've got a young 19 year old lad working at our place and I keep trying to persuade him to buy something and modify it. All he is bothered about is something reliable that returns good MPG. It makes me want to cry weeping

AH yes, the days of wasting money on a crappy hatchback to make it faster (in my case a 1 litre Citroen AX that I turned into a GT, for more than what I would have cost to buy a GT). Loved it then, but now I'm old enough to enter the hypocrite stage and laugh at scene VWs bouncing their way down the street

Spot on and you only have to look at the range of engines now...almost none of them are N/A and pretty much all of them have a turbo and a small capacity, or are diesel...the future is far from bright that's for sure.

It's sad I know but I am happy to cling onto the past where cars are concerned too.
