Just had another memory from those days. My younger brothers job was to shoot the photos for "bodyworks babes" in redline each month.

So one shoot he needed my old hummer to drape a naked 18 year old bird over.

It was amazing for the first few minutes, but then the workshop owner showed me a car they were restoring for Steve Perez. It was hannu mikkola's group b s1 Audi Quattro. I dont think she was impressed that we were distracted so easily

Anyone remember some of Jamie Shaws creations? Gold Cerb and Blue 5 turbo stick in my mind!
Didn't he do a Cerbera? Red?

I was a Max Power regular. My first issue had two mk3 Escort RS Turbos on the cover, with tiger stripes biggrin

It was basically lower shelf pron towards the end. The writing was consistently cringe-making

Haha, rollingback the years!.
They used to build cars and give them away. Had loads of the posters. Car on one side, Olivia/jakki Degg/Jordan on the other...
Im sure they built a yellow Carlton. Remember the wide arch mk4 Astra coupe show car that got destroyed by fire after a show aswell! Loads of memories!

No, Ali G used another Renault 5 Jamie Shaw built for the TV show, the rival gang in the film used the last silver Renault 5 he built. The yellow car he had in the film was built by a bodyshop called Dawson's.

Yep based in ferndown, dorset. Shut down a while back. A friend used to own the Citroen AX from the movie which was purple till he crashed it and put himself in a coma.

Things have changed over the years!

I did my school work experience there ~11 years ago - the R5 and TVR were both there at the time. Not sure if they saw much use really.

I remember buying the first ever issue of Max Power. In my defence I was too young to know any better.

Pretty sure it had a bright purple Dimma 205 on the cover. Lovely. cool

True story.
I'd bin it

God, I thought it was "Doreen"

There seemed to be a competition between Max Power and Fast Car as to who could be the most revolting, there were letters about killing someones Dog and how funny it was, there was a photo at a cruise of a lad, naked on a car bonnet holding his boner, it had been blanked out but not quite enough biggrin there were a lot of very young girls with their boobs out, there were some that looked like they really shouldn't have been there and some that looked like it was a normal event, plenty of sub Babestation scratters as well.

The language was pretty bad, just unnecessary in a car magazine, Custom Car was mentioned, I suppose it was the seventies but they did it a bit better, Back Street Heroes still manages to not be completely vile with a bit of female flesh on display, Fast Car was ok at one point, but they seemed to go from a normal magazines to trying to out Max Power Max Power

My first issue had their Project Thunder yellow Carlton on the front. I was young enough that my Mum bought it for me. Thankfully she had no idea what was inside! I can't remember over what period I regularly bought it but it was an entertaining read despite some of the cars being horrid even for the time. A few former editors talk of the mag being screwed up and take. In the wrong direction. Is this the time of Nick Trott (now of EVO fame)?

Bad times!

Dawson's old R32 demo car, the 3 tone flip painted one on hydraulic suspension is around Stoke now, not seen it for a bit though think it's just parked up. Was looking slightly rough last time I saw it.

No shame in having read Max-Power. I used to love that magazine back in the day when i was 18 or so and it was in it's heyday
Does anyone remember the Mk Escort RS turbo they did with the cosworth spoiler. I remember at the time thinking it was cool, but imagine seeing it on the road now smile
Project 2000! I thought that car was amazing. I bought Max Power religiously when I was at uni. My uni bag was even a Max Power bag.... oh dear.. hehe I even went to Max Power Live 1997! Lordy boxedin

I remember some guy putting two VR6 engines in a mk3 and calling it a VR12. Bright blue iirc.

I credit Max Power another ilk as getting me into cars in the first place. I was the perfect age for it (15 + ...) and so used to buy every copy. Many a time I'd have a good long think about Jo Guest, Jordan, Jacki Degg et al...

I also seem to remember that there was suddenly a point, right around when that Renault 5GTT appeared (blue? Yellow interior?) when the cars suddenly became TOO ridiculous, £100k cars created by companies rather than enthusiasts at home. I moved on from MP at that point to Fast Car and some others..

As for cruises, such a shame they went the way they did as I enjoyed a few of them. When guys weren't fighting they were good fun. Lots of women to meet and get drunk with, nice cars, car guys to meet and chat too, was great at the time.

I actually bought an Uno Turbo off the back off a copy of MP after all my mates got Renault 5GTT's. God I loved that car. Useless in the corners but rapid in a straight line, with classic old school turbo power delivery. It felt SO fast moving into turbocharged cars after the initial Nova SR/GTE's and Pug GTI's. I used to go over a speed bump and see if I could hit 60mph before having to brake for the next one hehe

I could, for the record cool

If I could find a decent Fiat Uno Turbo i.e. I'd buy it today as a keeper.

Good times.

Anybody fancy a throwback?

I'm of the generation after the whole Nova/Max Power/Jakki Degg scene but I've heard enough quips to know roughly what it's about. My ex's sister used to do a lot of modelling for Max Power and other car mags, she ended up as a grid dolly for a few BTCC (or similar) races. The looks ran in the family. smile
