Was it MaxPower that did feature about a loon from Japan doing 200mph+ down the A1M at midnight ?

Brought over a car from Japan and everything. Ended up getting kicked out of England and told to never come back

ok, call me old fashioned but i never quite understood the whole FHM, MaxPower, vague titilation mag concept. why not just buy a magazine thats a decent read AND but a copy of Razzle. I started reading Max Power about 20 years ago when they actually focused on genuinely awesome modified cars....a Mk1 Escort with a cosworth engine, a Group N Delta Integrale recreation, etc etc. within a year it was all "look at my nice paint job and sound system with integrated fleshlight with a half nakend chick stood next to me". Any mug can do that.

Damn.

She had the perkiest pair ever.

Her teeth look like she's on crystal meth.
So much to be completely misunderstood from one bad pictures ....

She suffered from fybromyalgia (sp?). But if you saw some recent pictures (the look is more of a private picture thing), she's back on cracking form .... I mean, really damn good form. Looking as good as she ever did.

Quite. An owner of a Max Power cover car (can't give too many details as it would identify the person concerned, but suffice to say it had a Reiger body kit) had a car spares and accessories shop near me. He wasn't a young bloke and he had the full 'uncle disgusting' mullet and 'tache, but every time I visited the shop there would be a different school-age girl 'working' there (or more likely just hanging around uncle disgusting).

Every local car scene had one guy like that hehe

Off topic slightly, Johnny Smith whose in Fifth Gear now also started working for Max and Revs, Chris Meeke was in it years ago racing a Saxo in an ice race before his career really took off. And Nick Trott, the now Evo editior also worked there, and had a Riviera Blue AX GT in ITB's.

Surprised no one has mentioned that our recently departed Garlick was high up at Max Power before he was running things over here.

I used to love the mag. I was very much an adolescent of the Max Power era, and recall being very in love with one of the babe of the year thing winners.

Kerry Parker or something springs to mind.

Bagging a cruise babe always seemed like the dream to me at the time. How times change.

(if any cruise babes are browsing please give me a pm)

I had an excellent time when Max Power was at its height, I still have a lot of the magazines and I remember their buyers guide to the Opel Manta, I had a Manta (actually still do, the same one from way back then) and it was a pretty good guide.

The local "scene" was good, not too many tts and we mostly just chatted and went off on drives around the place, when you are 19, living in darkest Cornwall and have no responsibilities cars were a good way of having an interest that wasn't really a big money waste like drinking or drugs.

To me the whole thing was a social scene and we mostly got left alone by the Police who would occasionally come and make sure we were ok, we all had tax, insurance and MOT and were mostly sensible. Well...

I suspect quite a few of the staff of MP have made successful moves into other areas of the automotive world following the decline in print media.

- Dan Anslow writes for motor-vision which is a pretty good website
- Jon Walsh - does he still write for Performance Vauxhall as he had a Nova that was featured in MP loads of times - scratch that it seems he works in PR for Infiniti cars!

I think Max Power was responsible for my love of cars. I used to drool over Mk4 Fiesta's with huge body kits and TSW Venom's and dreamed of doing it when I was old enough but, my taste changed between then and the point that I actually had any money, or a car. I think the draw was that I could let my creativity run wild, with my sh!t taste.

The girls were a big part of any teenage boy "growing up" at that point and I thank them so very much for showing me what a cracking pair if t!ts looked like. Possibly the first pair I ever saw was in here and it was easy to blag my Mum into buying the mag as she believed it was just about cars.

My dad often goes on about how it was different in his day, the 70's and 80's and I don't pay much attention but, I get it now. I mean this was roughly 10yrs ago, this scene, the girls and the explicit nature of it all and today we would never dream of it. Degrading in parts of course, chavtastic definitely but I loved it.

If some amazing t!ts can't sell a pair of G Max springs then I don't know what can!

Do we have a definitive list of all the girls who posed? I'd like to Google them out of curiosity, maybe, for old times sake, have a wa...

1. Jackie Degg (I think I might remember her cup size biggrin)
2. Jo Guest
3. Maria Sheriff
4. Jordan

I found this lot from some dark archives of the Max Power Babes Special Edition...

- Abigail Toyne
- Nicola Ulian
- Jo Hicks
- Nikkala
- Nicola McLean
- Ebony
- Rebekah
- Olvia
- Jodie Oram
- Ava
- Leilani
- Holly

After that lot, I'm out...

Jackie Degg... cloud9

One car I remember being besotted by was the Reyland Sierra Cosworth 3 door, vaguely remember it meeting a messy end at Bruntingthorpe or something similar? Also didn't rally driver Marcu Dodd get featured with a white Group A-spec Escort Cosworth that was road legal?

Indeed. And an Escort Cosworth was literally the fastest car you could think of. Like a GT-R nowadays.

IINM, the Reyland Escort Cosworth that followed it was crashed quite heavily on the Gumball Rally?

Back to Max Power - I recall quite clearly for some reason someone writing in to ask how he would go about fitting 18" wheels to his Vauxhall Astra and being derided as a fool.

In those days, 15's were considered impressive and 17's were a top of the tree. 18's were dreamland!

Funny when a basic shopping trolley now comes on 17's virtually as standard....
