Kahn 'Flying Huntsman' - Geneva 2015 [UPDATED]

The weird and wonderful from Geneva begins! [UPDATED WITH EXCLUSIVE PICS!]

Kinda odd looking, isn't it? This is Kahn's rendering of its Flying Huntsman, the prototype of which will be shown at Geneva tomorrow afternoon. It is Kahn's view of a coachbuilt Defender concept and is, well, unique at least.

"Striking and aggressive" says Kahn
"Striking and aggressive" says Kahn
Six wheels isn't guaranteed yet though. Kahn says "up to five potential variants" are being discussed in a production schedule with four and six wheels considered. But this wouldn't be a motor show debut without a suitably daft concept, right?

Aside from the additional pair of wheels, the most obvious change is to the Defender's dimensions. The bonnet is 400mm longer, the rear cabin is extended by 800mm and the car is 150mm wider too. Bigger doors improve access while the styling is described as "striking and aggressive."

Under that dramatically elongated bonnet resides a 6.2-litre LS3 GM V8 with around 430hp and a six-speed auto. It isn't pitched as a road warrior though, Kahn maintaining the Flying Huntsman will be "built to tame the hardiest terrain" with upgraded suspension and brake parts on top of the usual Defender equipment.

For now that's all the info available on this latest Kahn creation. More from the Geneva show floor tomorrow.

I wonder how much testing companies like Kahn do when they modify vehicles.

That is a very good comment. Developing body and installing a different engine is relatively cheap - but developing good suspension is expensive. Like the old Overfinch - fantastic engine, but the rest was not up to it

Would it be wrong to say that it appears they didn't test the design by opening their eyes to realise how wrong it is and therefore maybe haven't tested anything else very much?

Looks good awful.

Now a half track with a normal length bonnet powered by the TDV8, that would be interesting.

Is it just me or is there a lot more rubbish like this about recently? By which I mean self indulgent penis extensions for the likes of that Dan Bilzerian and the super rich. I hope its a monumental flop.

Sign of the times I suppose.

Kahn "Design" office, Friday afternoon.

Boss- "Right Lads, Geneva motor show starts next week, we need something for that"
Lackey- "I have an idea- you know the AMG 6x6 G Wagen, we could do a version of that, only with a defender, and a GM LS3 motor"
Boss- "sounds good- get someone to do a render and stick out a press release, we'll throw it together it together on Monday"

Isn't that a 6x2 - 6 wheels, 2 driven? The Khan 6x6 is 6 wheels, all 6 driven.

I was thinking this to. I wonder if it will have the engineering build of the obvious German competitors.

First thing I thought off when I heard about it.

Here's a few 'during' pics from his Instagram if anyone is interested, not sure who is doing it but they are based in Scotland. Apparently someone called Ian Mitchell from Wildcat Automotive messed up one his early prototypes

6 x 6 Land Rovers are nothing new. Various companies like Foley and Reynpolds Boughton have been converting Defenders for years. Carmichaels in Worcester were building 6 x 6 Range Rovers in the 1970's.

That rendering is actually a clue and you're all missing it

The rear wheels are so close together that they'll actually work like cogs, rolling-up the tarmac and thus pulling the road under the front wheels to give the impression you're moving whilst the scenery remains static for your enjoyment...

You can therefore take a drive on the moors without moving - you can shoot at things with greater accuracy whilst the driver navigates 'the road ahead'

Amazing idea

Half Life 3 confirmed...

p.s. one of those "making of" shots suggests a man is enormous or the thing is TINY

Virtually anything that can be done to a Land Rover, has been done.
