soo the burning question keeping me awake last night was....

if the russians bombed us I'd probably want to leg it to devon to see my folks and hide out. we have a new golf and an old defender.

which would you take - the golf as its fast and reliable, or the landie as it can go places the golf cant if the roads are blocked etc?

or would you ramraid a local dealer with the defender and get a completely different car - if so what - a range rover?

please let me know your views before war breaks out

Something bullet/bomb-proof, since the extra thickness of metal and glass would provide significant extra radiation shielding. smile

This reads like a Top Gear challenge.

Let's see. Jeremy in a chipped and turbocharged Hummer with his n hers machine guns. James in a steam traction engine because he understands the danger of EMP. Richard in a camper van converted into a fallout shelter.

ha would be a good one! does emp only strike when the bombs drop and would it only be in blast radius?

or should i choose a camper van seeing as may be living rough?

i dont have much of a choice, the z4 would get me about 300 miles but i couldnt take much with me, the RRS i can take loads, and some friends, but i wouldnt get very far before i ran out of petrol.

I might kill ny neighbour and steal his ecobox.

Yes, it's a pulse of electromagnetic radiation at the instant of the blast which induces electric currents in electronic circuits. The amount of damage and the permanency of it will depend on the proximity of the car to the explosion, the vulnerability and degree of shielding of the components, the location of the vehicle (underground car park / out in the open/ etc) and so on. Could be anything from warning lights on the dash that go away with a restart to electronics completely fried.

This, would probably have to be an old car the pre-dates electronic ignition, fuel injection, etc.
