RE: Land Rover confirms Evoque Convertible
Discussion
In April 1948 Land Rover launched its first rag top, an squat slab sided affair, at the Amsterdam Motor show. By June that year they had 8000 orders and were scrambling desperately to meet the growing demand. It was hailed at the time as a post war success story that buoyed the nation.

I don't mind SUV convertibles as such but the Evoque has such large depth of side metal I do feel it might look like babies sitting in a huge pram driving along??CY88 said:

A drop top 4x4! Now why didn't I think of that?! No, honestly, this is a dumb idea but its the new niche for fools!!
I'm sorry, but people who make these sort of comments have zero knowledge of the brand.Every Land Rover model ever produced (save the Discovery) has either been offered with a drop top option, or had a conversion available through a specialist company.

I really like the look of it, although not so much with the roof up.It's actually quite hard to find a decent 4 seater convertible these days, so I'd definitely put this on the contender list. I know my Mrs would want one and she's not orange and doesn't live in Cheshire Unfortunately I can't justify changing the current Evoque having just ordered a Mustang convertible.
It'll be interesting to see how it looks with the facelift model.
Exactly, many of the ass holes here don't seem to realise. The first defenders had many of them being open top. Even those memorable safari versions.

Useful for hunting the Grouse. Paint one dark green and I can see estates who charge you money to go out killing things getting them. Far more comfortable than a Defender for new money wannabe Harry and Henriettas.
More likely to be driven by an orange scaffolders wife who outgrew her SLK.
Is this not Land-Rover going back to its roots? Weren't the first Landy's soft tops?
:-)

Also from what I gather, the majority of people here on Piston Heads are cheap skates and would never buy new, so the manufactures wouldn't give two hoots. End of the day, you would get the usual cliché of I can buy X amount of BMW E46 M3 for that money etc and have double/triple the power.

An object lesson in practicality.
Now it's easier to hear people calling you a kb.
Or an object lesson in making money - after all that is what LR are in business for, no??Now it's easier to hear people calling you a kb.

Do other counties not have "Orange Women", I have to say, living in the heart of Cheshire that they are fairly numerous and some are indeed spectacularly orange and seemingly oblivious to it, but surely other counties have them as well, Essex is kind of similar but what about others ?
I'm looking forward to it - I've got an Evoque coupe today, and if I can, next year will definitely get a cabrio.
Looks fine to me, and if anybody has actually been offroading on a sunny day (in a Vitara, Jeep, Jimny or other similarly "un-manly" offering) they'll know that having no roof out in the countryside is a delight!
With the single track roads around here, small SUV makes a lot of sense, and a drop top makes the most of any decent weather day we get...

just the modern version of one of these
Well, partially, but not really, Range Rover is several notches above Suzuki, but the Vitara did sell pretty well, for a time in the nineties people were clamouring for them, especially with the "Fatboy" kit, a small, light but tall off roader that had 265 width tyres, usually in some puke inducing colour, but they were apparently desirable to some and if that can manage it, I am sure the Evoque can.I dont think many PH'er would do very well in product development or marketing, every car would have a huge petrol engine, rear drive, do 200 mph and only fit one "powerfully built" bloke in.
