Gearboxes on high revving Hondas have always been a weak point. This car won't be revving so high, so it'll be interesting to see whether issues appear. Well, when I say interesting. I mean I don't really care!

There is a lot going on with that design, a bit DTM car with all the arch cladding. Quite like the front of it though.

It looks like there is a separate display for the AC settings. Surely they can't have done that in 2015? The golf has had the heater temps and settings as part of the stereo display for quite a few years now
I don't get you, the AC controls on my MK7 Golf and every previous Golf I have owned has been completely separate to the MMI.

Will need to drive brilliant theres so much competition now ,it does look wild so fingers crossed I,ve been a fan of the vtech engine for years and Honda really need to spice up there very boring range of cars this and the new nsx should help.

Stereo looks like a bit of an after thought compared to other manufacturers. In fact it looks like a traditional double din system.

The article also refers to the greatness of the Honda gearboxes. Ask a few FN2 owners what they think of the gearbox that have issues with second and third because the syncros are knackered. Gearboxes usually require a complete rebuild by Honda at a cost of a grand.
to be fair to Honda it was only early FN2's that had the 3rd gear issue and they were fixed under warranty. Its still one of the best features of the type r's

I'm struggling slightly with this - how many people are there who will like the styling who can actually afford to buy (or rent) and insure one? Maybe I'm just showing my age, but it looks like a car which couldn't possibly appeal to a significant number of people over the age of 25?

I was hoping the Type R would do away with the horrid rear lights the current Civic is cursed with. Appears that is no longer the case.....I'm out.
Lol - don't worry - I don't think you were part of the demographic Honda were aiming at. May not happen but potentially, in a few weeks, Chris Harris (or similar) may drive this car and pronounce it the best FWD/hot hatch they have ever driven in their lives and you still won't be interested because of the rear lights? I don't like them much either but jeez...

I would have thought the target market would be those who love te Megane RS models. But with the bonus of 5 doors. I think it looks brilliant I have to say.

I thought all previous Civics looked and drove a bit poor.

I wouldn't be seen dead in it and I used to be a dyed in the wool Honda fanboy. It's stepped beyond crass into just plain embarrassing.

The NSX, on the other hand, is fantastic. How can they be from the same company?!

Biggest problem for me is that the current Civic is such a pig ugly munter to start with.

Having said that, its certainly distinctive, but as others have said its a very heavy looking design that makes the 19s look almost small.

Rather too much in the way of add-ons for my liking, makes it look rather cheap.

I preferred the older Type Rs that were visually much more subtle and let the mechanicals do the talking.

Seriously, what does that mean? You think it's adorned in overpriced inner tubes, niche lubricants, European headlight adapters or that you'd be amazed at what it can do?

I think they'll struggle to sell in these days of sub-5 second hatches, although i'm sure the hardcore Honda fans will lap them up. Also, IMHO it looks pretty damn ugly.

Each to their own and all that!

Yeah because everyone buys a hot hatch for it's 0-60 and not because of the driving dynamics/feel......

Looks mental, I like thumbup

Only thing I don't like is the black around the lights/grill. Would look better if it was the same colour as the rest of the car.

Anyway...

I am was a Honda fanboy and have been waiting years for this car, but those years have put me on the wrong side of 30. I'll have to see how it looks in the flesh, but right now I'd be embarrassed to be seen in that thing. It's not that it's over styled either. It's just that it looks unresolved and the styling additions look a bit 'stuck on' - a bit too aftermarket, especially as the wheels don't fill the width of the arch extensions.

The only thing that will save the Type-R is if it is absolutely amazing to drive, and this will convince potential customers to look beyond the crass styling.
