The M135i START at about £26k now the discounts are that easy to find.
Good luck with that. There won't be any of the old models left and there won't be silly discounts on the LCI model due next month.

That ring time amounts to an average speed of 98 miles per hour. It's not really representative of any B-roads I drive on, or how I drive on them - there are large sections of the track which are well into three figures. Somewhere like Millbrook would be more representative, but even then, this level of capability is well beyond what's reasonable to use in terms of visibility and not getting chucked in prison. So the time isn't really worth much beyond bar-room willy-waving if you're comparing using six tenths of a new Civic Type-R versus seven tenths of an EP3.

Kambites Sounds like A load of posh words that in reality mean fook all
So what you are saying is that your exige is not as fast and more fun and extra safe than a hot hatch ?
I don't really understand m8 unless your trying to state you prefer cars that go out of control over 30 mph and prefer the experience because it's more fun and less dangerous ? So why do you own an exige then ? Trade it in for a tvr then they don't have much mechanical grip and are a hoot but safe they are not same as any self propelled vehicle, only the nut inside controls it , but we all no the real deal for you is its fwd all that other twaddle was just that

Actually there will be if you know where to go. It may take 6-12 month before the discounts are all over but they certainly are there now.

I guess if you need very track focussed this civic is more like it.. I remember when these used to be £17k new!

As nice as the m135 is bar it's Joan rivers looks its not really a hard core focussed car so it's not really relevant tbh
It won't be the hoot to drive like a hot hatch it's to boring and refined no lsd a bit wallow'y etc great if that's what you want
We want hardcore hatch bring on the hardcore biggrin plus making a m135i hardcore would cost st loads biggrin

M135 LCI on coast2coast cars starts at 25.8k and have seen a PCP deal from a dealer for the same.

LCI version looks better and has LED headlight as standard (previously an option).

No need to wait.

The fact that Honda unveiled the civic on a darkened room yesterday tells you all you need to know. It's horrendous and I'd much rather drive my old astra and go 45 sec slower round the ring.

That diesel is quite impressive considering Honda was late to the diesel party.....anywho so basically even stripped out to an even more stupid degree than either the Leon or Megane and its not much faster with more tq and bhp. Can only assume in standard trim its on going to be on par or only slightly faster than the ageing Megane.

So basically when the new Megane comes out the smile will instantly be wiped off Honda's face. I was expecting a lot more looking at the spec sheet.
Did you read the article? They stripped out elements of standard interior to balance out the weight of the roll cage which increased rigity aside is a fair enough comparison. I'd be surprised if there is much difference in the times between test and final product.

As for the new Megane, how much further can you go with FWD and 300hp. I am sure that these cars are at the ceiling of what can be achieved without stripping, caging and slicks (excluding driver and track conditions).
Yes and being an engineer just loosing the equivalent weight is not the same. A great big heavy AC pump in front of the engine and dead weight in the form of a seat next to the driver is completely different to a roll cage weight spread evenly throughout the cabin and aiding no doubt in structural rigidity (assuming that it was a proper full cage) The writer even hints to the fact they seem to miss the point out that a car mounted with a full cage will handle better.

Regards to your comment on how far can we take the hot hatch. I still think the way forward is weight loss. Strip 200kg out of the Megane and even keep the 265bhp engine. It would go like stink.

This was what I was on about.

For a more track focussed car though, I think I would go for the Leon with the Sub 8 kit, which funnily enough is available with even bigger percentage discounts, 23k. I just couldn't live with the looks of this or the Renault.

I think it's a shame that the new Type R doesn't look closer to the concept in stock form but nothing a bit of aftermarket support can't fix in the styling department at a later date. Despite that, I actually like the looks and appreciate that it's gone mental to separate itself from most other boring hot hatches out there, particularly the boring-looking German rivals. Everyone will know what it is on the road because of its extravagant styling and I prefer to be noticed when driving around...but I drive a yellow car so...

I think as a package it is a pretty good value considering how refined the interior seems to be and the fact that it has performance rivalling the hardcore version of the Megane and the Subaru STI. And for me, considering the fact that I do more than 10 track days per year and don't need to drive daily this seems like an attractive proposition. This, or enjoy a 20 year old Nissan Skyline R33/R34 to tick an item off of my bucket list...

Nice car, but its got some serious competion out there already and surely there must be a new megane and therefore megane sport around the corner too.

I'd have it in black...

I was really hoping that Honda would move away from this shape of Civic for the new Type R, suffice to say I wouldn't buy it based on its looks. Give me an EK9 or EP3 any day.

When are we going to see a new Integra Type R? These giant spoilers Honda are so keen on look far better on coupes...

Ford Mustang V8 fully loaded - £35k
Honda Civic Type R fully loaded - £33k.

Hmm... me thinks there is a bit of a difference in class for £2k.

Honda looks horrific ... a halfords/ripspeed special is ever there was one.

I'm rather looking forward to reading some actual journo reviews on this. Aside from Nurburgring lap times, what really matters is how it goes on British roads. I'll reserve my judgement until then.
Am looking forward to seeing one in the flesh, I quite like it..

Class difference, I assume you mean the Honda is in a higher league to a Ford. You surely couldn't be thinking the other way round? Surely...?

Put it this way, you're off to pick up a date, which do you take ? a bad imitation of a max power car, circa 2004 or a nice big coupe that looks far more expensive than it is?

When the mustang (finally) gets here people will point and go "wtf is that?"
When the civic arrives they'll point and laugh at you.
