McLaren - Geneva 2015

500 units only for the 675LT, each costing from £259,500

The McLaren 675LT was already a very exciting prospect from what we knew before the Geneva show. The reduced weight and bombastic performance in particular made it a must-see, but now further details have arguably made it one of the cars of the show.

Big spoiler, big exhausts, big price

Some may bemoan the fact it isn't a genuine Longtail as per the name but much of what made the original F1 special (or so say McLaren) features here. Track widths are up 20mm front and rear, the springs are stiffer (27 per cent at the front, 62 per cent at the rear) and downforce is improved by 40 per cent thanks to the body modifications.

There are tweaks as well to the SSG dual-clutch gearbox for "more eager performance" and to the ESC for "an even greater level of control over the throttle and brake inputs." McLaren claims gearshifts are now up to twice as fast and an ignition cut in the shift adds some aural drama too.

Still not enough? McLaren has been predicting that. Therefore the 675 Longtail is available with a Club Sport pack. It costs £5,090 and is "designed with an even greater focus on track driving"; the pack comprises a titanium roll hoop, four point harnesses and a fire extinguisher. It hasn't been confirmed yet whether the Pirelli Trofeo R tyres seen here are standard or part of the Club Sport pack.

Want Alcantara? You got it!

In the metal and carbon and Alcantara, the Longtail is absolutely stunning. It appears to have grown into its P1 mini-me looks much more than 650, the wider tracks in particular contributing to a really assertive stance. In Chicane Grey with McLaren Orange accents, it's easily as attention grabbing as the other super sports cars on show here.

McLaren has also announced pricing and availability today. The £259,500 price makes it over £60,000 more expensive than the regular 650S but then the 500-unit production run will make it far rarer too. McLaren is taking orders now, with deliveries due in July.  Just about time for the 488 GTB then.

Why cant it just be one price instead of "costing from"?
These special editions of certain cars are getting pathetic now.
Each one should have all the same options ticked but difference being (at a push) personal colour choice.
It just doesnt seem right to charge what they are but expecting another 5k for something that should in my book be on the car anyway.
Or, dont offer the option at all!
Flame if you want world but im hoping im not the only one!

The harnesses are a big negative if you'll use the car on the road a lot though. So in this case you should get the choice, albeit you could argue for a no-cost option instead.

At this price I,d rather have a lambo or Ferrari, these McClarens are dive bombing in value on the used market leaving aside p1 or f1 .

They've changed the front of the 12C for the 650S, and now the back, for the LT. It looks better but still cack....and unfortunately still a 12C under the facelift and rear tucks.

Sorry but WHAT!!!!! The last time I looked there were only about eleven 650s currently for sale on the used market, what does that say about the cars desirability. Compare that to the much younger Huracan of which you have close to 50 in the classifieds I think the 650s will be holding their value for a hell of a lot longer

Actually they're different cars underneath, so much so that owners of 650S who want looks of the 12C etc are not able to pay McLaren for it because it's not possible. Plus considering how the 12C beat its counterparts on everything but soul and perhaps looks (which is different for different people) then it wouldn't be a bad thing.

They're not going to give away all these options for free are they though. So if I wanted one of these cars I'd far rather not need to pay for things that I already knew I didn't want. Have you looked at a ferrari/lambo/other exotica options list cost???

Spot on.

As for being a face lifted 12c bubney72...If you have a minute maybe you should pop on youtube and check out some reviews/650 comparisons. Worlds apart (from already excellent 12c) by all accounts.

Still no sign of their promised 911 competitor, why are they taking so long? Anyone have any inside information on it?

Or the 400K model to go between the 650S and the P1 which some thought this would be. This is definitely the best looking so far and for road use I can't see it being significantly slower than a P1 so the fact it can be had in RHD would sell it for me.

These are largely bespoke cars and buyers would expect a largely bespoke service. If I were paying top money for a product like this I'd want a certain amount of individuality so I just can't see why having a choice of carefully selected options could ever be a bad thing. If everyone were happy to have exactly the same thing as everyone else there wouldn't be a single modified GTR would there??

What a car, I get sick of people saying they would rather take a Lamborghini or Ferrari over a Mclaren at the price they are asking.
These are no Nissan GTR or Porsches the Mclarens are supercars in their own right and out perform the above in most departments and have a rich and successful racing pedigree. Lamborghini, aren't they famous for making tractors?
People have a right to have a preference but some people don't just know their cars that well. if people only look at a better known road manafacturer that they had a picture on their wall when growing up and think they are better they should get real and move into the 21st century.
I have had Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, GTR, noble plus many other fast sought after cars, but I have now a mclaren 650s spider and it far the best car I have owned and I chose that over the 458 and Hurracan. The looks you get and crowds around the car are more than the brands mentioned above.
I wonder how many people have even Seen or been close up to one of the new breed of Mclaren's?

My old Exige had a track pack with 4 point harnesses but also kept the inertia belts for normal road driving.

Harnesses only on the road are a nightmare. You cant reach the stereo controls let alone lean forward to see out at junctions.

As far as I'm led to believe the allocation of these cars in many regions has sold out already, 150-200 for the middle/far east and Oz, 100 for USA, 3 to Canada and the remaining cars will largely be spread around Europe, 40ish to remain in UK.

Total before Geneva was rumoured to be 2/3rds pre-sold.
