Glickenhaus - Geneva 2015
Want to cause a stir at the Nurburgring this year? The SCG003 should do it!
With the Competizione version available to order at the show, more information is currently available on that. The V6 twin-turbo engine is said to be "derived" from a Honda unit which implies a fairly thorough reengineering by Autotecnica Motori. And it can be swapped out (!). By designing the carbon structure with packaging flexibility in mind, Glickenhaus says the rear frame "can be easily exchanged to allow the use of different engines on the same platform." Remember the road car will use a twin-turbo V6 as well, but an engine that Glickenhaus is "specifically developing" which suggests it isn't something off the shelf.
The design is inspired by LMP1 and 2 cars, the styling by Granstudio and the aero work by Podium Engineering. Pushrod suspension is used for both models, with the Competizione racing on Dunlop tires with Bosch electronics. So close are the two models that Glickenhaus says the racer can be "easily owner converted" for road use.
As for actual motorsport, the SCG003 will be raced in a specific Glickenhaus racing program across the world after its debut at this year's Nurburgring 24-hour. So if you missed out on a P1 GTR...
The SCG003 Stradale will be ready for delivery by the end of this year, Glickenhaus promising "the experience of a modern, easy to drive race car, with downforce and engine torque that are unknown in the supercar world." Quite a USP to have. Orders are being taken now but the SCG003 obviously isn't one of those vehicles where a base RRP is released. If you have to ask and all that...
From the show floor it's the attention to detail that in the SCG's design that leaves the biggest impression. Both cars are little more than a seat, racing wheel and a dashboard of switches but it's all so beautifully done. As you would expect given the time and expense lavished on the project. When there's more on this very exciting car we'll keep you updated.

€2m seems quite steep, how much does a "normal" GT3 car run you these days?

Cracking looking car. You must have had some fun there Matt.
That aside it looks amazing. One would have to wonder how practical the race-to-street conversion is though and whether it will be able to hit it's claimed 1000kg/1000hp target when the governments had their say. But maybe those numbers are done up in Ferrari lingo as well.
Granted, I highly doubt Ferrari would let any of those engines go. Wasn't there some sort of falling-out between Jim and Ferrari, regarding the "Competizione" version of the P4/5?
A friend of mine was trying to buy a 575 Maranello engine and drivetrain for a one-off special he had commissioned. They initially agreed, then balked when he stated the car was going to be a hot rod. He threatened them saying he would buy a new 575M, remove the drivetrain, destroy the remaining car with a chainsaw, and then post a video of the whole thing on the internet, explaining why he had done it. Ferrari shipped him a brand-new 575 crate engine and drivetrain!
The finished result is far more than merely a "hot rod":

"The SCG 003 can only make it to the US imported as used automotive parts and registered as a kit car"
That's what I feared. It's already grown to 1100 kg and will have a 600hp V6 instead of the 1000hp W12. And wont be fully homologated.
You've got to admire his undeniable passion and dedication though. Can't wait to see it on the race track and some lucky collectors will be happy for sure, it's a beautiful piece of machinery.
I always enjoy seeing people with the ability to express their passion, express it. He's pretty engaging with fellow petrolheads too.
Wish this all the best - and yes and the V12 from the Ferrari F12 would be my choice.
Back to the story: my friend, Eric, said he bought two plots, head to head, in the cemetery because "if I'm going to spend all of eternity, there, I want some room to stretch out every once in a while". The belly tank he's having built will have a large, vertical fin which will stick through the ground and serve as his tombstone! And my favorite part: he said, "I'm only putting two gauges in it, an altimeter and a temperature gauge, that way I know which way I'm going", and "I'm having it lined in Nomex, just in case"! The man is a legend! The best part is he's actually doing it!
From the article:
Before the N24 begins in about two hours, here is the reason why Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus ended up having one race car at the start line instead of the original planned two cars.
