Sorry if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it.

Bought a lightly used 2014 Fiesta ST the other week it's been running fine with no problems up until now. Haven't driven it for a few days and when I went to try it this morning turning it to start nothing happens. Interior lights, radio, wipers etc all seem to work.

I tried to jump start it but again on turning over there was still nothing, maybe I should've got someone to rev the other car a bit. Scratching my head with this one as im not the most mechanically minded! It only has 4000 miles on it and less than a year old!

I'm wondering if there's some key or immobilizer issue im overlooking, or maybe something was left on in the car I don't know of and I just need to try and jump it again.

If all the electrics work normally without another battery then something's stopping either the starter or the ignition system inc fuel from doing what it's supposed to do.

It'd be a strange one to happen, but an inertia switch might be worth looking for, but chances are it's the ECU/key or some other electrickery. Not turning over at all but having everything else working as it should probably isnt dead battery.

ETA - it isnt one that you have to have the clutch down, foot on brake or anything is it?

Dead starter motor? Does it have keyless entry?

Doesn't have Keyless entry, no clicking or anything when I try to turn it over just nothing.

Would the starter motor just die without it showing any problems before? not something I'd really expect from a less than a year old car but knowing my luck...

When you try to start do the dashboard lights dim as if something is drawing power, or just literally nothing happens?

I have the clutch in when trying to start it, Not near the car just now but as far as I remember when I was trying to start it there was no dimming of lights when trying to start it.

Could it be a fuse blown?

Dodgy battery terminals?

When jump starting leave the 2 batteries connected for at least 10 mins with the donor car running. Gives chance for the dead battery to get some charge in there.

If still nothing may be an immobilser as mentioned.

Do you have breakdown cover that includer homw start?

Agreed, get on the blower and get them out to sort it. If there's no messages on the dash etc I'd assume an immobiliser fault, maybe the clutch sensor?

I'll give jump starting it another go when I get home from work, if that doesn't work I'll call ford assist and see if they can get it going.

Could be a fuse or relay, it does happen.
Consult user manual for what fuses and relays are for what, check if they're busted.

Could also be a switch though I guess.

Try it with bonnet open and listen for a slight click-click-click though, some starters will fire the pinion out first before it tries to crank and once the pinion has fired that makes the connection for the round roundy bit. The pinion inny-outty bit is low current draw so it won't dim the lights and if it doesn't complete the starter won't do the roundy roundy bit and it won't make the whirry engine turny noise.

If that's not too technical paperbag

It's less than a year old, it has cover from the manufacturer without a doubt

Also, you'd expect an immobiliser LED on the dash or something, which will come on when you get in and go out as you crank, or flash if there's a fault.. or maybe do something entirely different, I know nothing about Fiestas, but surely there should be an indicator?

Also most modern cars which need a clutch and/or brake to start will tell you if it thinks you're not holding the clutch and/or brake or aren't in neutral or haven't put your seatbelt on, closed all the doors, adjusted your seat, set the aircon and put your shopping's seatbelt on. But obviously worth a try anyway wink

Push down clutch AND brake before starting.

I have a focus and it occasionally asks me to do it before it will fire. Only does it now and again and has caught me out a few times thinking 'why won't you start, FFS!'

Not saying it's the same issue as yours but it's worth a shot.

He just looked confused when I told him about the pokey pokey ouchy ouchy thing. To be fair I was confused too.

eta: should mention that the clicky-clicky thing can be independent to any fuse or relay issues, in case that wasn't clear.
