It's still worth playing around on here, as a whopping tax bill soon takes the shine off a "virtually free car"!

He's a powerfully built, goatee sporting big City lawyer. He can afford the CC tax. biggrin

I'm in a very similar position. Could almost be working for the same company, except our plan has a ban on Jap and Korean cars.
I'm restricted to a monthly lease rate, which for something nice an germanic with high RVs gives a list of a little over £40k. But if you go for something different (VXR for example) I may only get £35k.
I want a large workhorse that's not too stupid on tax (fuel card is included so mpg not an issue, petrol or diesel). I tow so a 'bar and satnav needs to be included. Comfortable and 'enough' poke. Rear wheel drive is sort of a pre-requisit.
Currently driving a Merc E class CDI250 Est, which suits fine but would seem boring if I replace like-with-like.
Considering a BMW525d Est - dunno if in budget, or a Jag XF Est.
Nice problem...

I opted out the company car scheme years ago and leased a Golf R 5dr DSG this time round. My milage isn't massive so it seems like a good all rounder.

You'd think they'd give him more than £40,000 to play with in that case.
biggrin

My choice would be a 428i Gran Coupe sport auto which would leave £1,500'ish for some options.

That's a good shout, especially with the cheaper manual box and M Sport Plus.

It's an irritating level for mid-range "prestige" cars as he's going to get stuffed by list prices being unrealistic. One of my colleagues got a nicely equipped 520d Touring a year ago and the list OTR price was £44K. His PCP is based on the discounted price of £36K.

That's why I own the 535d now.

List was £54k. Got £12k off.

CGI surely? If the op is not paying for the fuel why would he choose a diesel?

P11D is based on list though, so you're looking at a hefty downgrade. Not very PH.

Not too fussed about the CC tax or the fuel card tax. I know that already. This will still be a virtually free car and the difference in tax between the BIK is not worth worrying about.

I presume you have looked into BIK on company cars nowadays. It's not the free perk it once was.

I reckon a 335i with private fuel will set you back well over £500 a month in tax. Good value, perhaps, but it isn't even close to free.

It's about that, yeah.

Plus I lose my cash allowance on top.

Comes out to about £1100 a month all in.

I might just lease a Panamera Diesel!

"Free" is perhaps the wrong term but show me another avenue where you can get a brand new BMW 335i, with unlimited mileage, free fuel, maintenance and all other costs for £500 a month.

"But you won't own the car" I hear people cry

Fine - show me a lease deal where you can get a brand new BMW 335i, with unlimited mileage, free fuel, maintenance and all other costs for £500 a month.

For hassle-free motoring when you're doing high miles, it's a good deal.

That's the point. £260 a week for a fully expensed car for business and private use including fuel, tyres, tax, servicing and being given a brand new one when I get to 60k sounds cheap to me. I know a lot of people spending close to that on train tickets and parking!!

CGI is a 3.5l engine whereas CDI is 3l - OP stated criteria was 3000cc and under.

Agree it's good value. I just questioned the "free" part. Also you need to do quite a lot of private mileage to make fuel cards pay nowadays.

For me a company car is a no-brainer.

Merc C300 diesel hybrid. Might not quite work for you but is a good company car choice. The 2 top spec AMG ones though just pip £40k list.

It's not valid to add up BIK + allowance like that as it takes you to a position where you have no car, which isn't plausible.

Pitch them a salary sacrifice car scheme - that should save you a couple of hundred a month.
