There's bad drivers, and then there's...

Just read this:

Her list of mistakes genuinely alarms me... and whats worse is that she seems to think its all some big, funny joke! This has got to be the worst driving I've ever seen..... there needs to be some sort of option for driving examiners to permanently ban people this bad from ever getting behind the wheel again.....

"It then went from bad to worse. I went the wrong way round the roundabout again, ended up on someone’s driveway and spent so long looking for an appropriate place to stop to do a parallel park that the road came to an end."
How does that even happen!? 200 HOURS of lessons..... What exactly was the instructor teaching her..

At least she seems to have given up trying.
The problem with these sort of people is that if they have enough money to keep taking the tests then at some point there is a risk that they 'get lucky' and pass.
In the words of the driving instructor in Gone in Sixty Seconds: "Hell, I know i can't swim! So you know what I do? I stay my black ass out the pool!"

Sounds like my brother, he's been learning to drive for roughly 15 years and has passed his theory test 4 times (they each timed out) after probably as many failures and he's also failed his practical test on about 4 occasions!
Some people aren't cut out for driving but my brother won't listen and still hasn't passed his test.

The expectation that anyone can drive, regardless of how useless or incapable they are behind the wheel, needs to stop.
Driving is not a a basic human right, but a privilege to be earned by competent and safe behaviour behind the wheel.
We seem to be moving towards a culture in the UK in wich nobody is allowed to fail at anything and enforcing any kind of standard is seen as discrimination.
Long may she remain without a driving licence..

That is seriously worrying. Not just the fact that she has done that badly after 200+ hours and consistently makes mistakes like that, but her attitude is absolutely shocking. She comes across as thinking the whole thing is a joke!
The sad thing is that since I am around her age (22) I have come across a few people who have similar, albeit less extreme, attitudes towards driving. People openly admitting to driving home after a night drinking, people laughing about crashing their car into walls / bollards / other cars, the list is endless. Now granted these people are thankfully few and far between but they are out there.
Lets just hope they wise up and start taking driving a lot more seriously before they hurt someone else.

Driving is a complex and involved process with a lot of rules and requires decent spatial awareness and coordination, it amazes me how some people get a license.
I worked with a guy who was disabled and had a carer come in to help him, she was pretty thick and she used to bring her daughter in sometimes, she had done the theory test six times, I gave her some instruction on how to pass it (had done it recently for a bike test and passed it with 100 percent, its pretty easy if you learn it) and the test materials (Book and computer programme), I spent an hour with her and showed her how to install it and gave her some tips.
She failed it a seventh time, apparently the book had not been read and computer programme not installed, she actually started trying to implicate me in her seventh failure, I just laughed, she actually said "But Im a dead good driver", er yeah, right.

I met one of them yesterday evening.
She stopped dead in the middle of the road & then turned right over an island & across three lanes of traffic without even turning her head. I was expecting a beached Dihatsu Move tbh, how it straddled the narrow island with all four wheels on the road surface without getting stuck I'm not sure.

A friend of my GF failed quite a few times and, I'm sure, accidentally passed in the end. I've heard her driving was pretty frightening after she got her "freedom" too.
Some people do not have the basic aptitude.
I have encountered a few people who have struggled with driving in general. At least 2 friends just after school were positively dangerous. One took over 6 tests before she passed, and even then was a bloody danger to those inside the car and out.
I also know people who are good drivers but who approached taking the test all wrong. One used to drive themselves (alone) to the test centre and pretend to the examiners that the other driver had nipped to the shops, and another turned up in a custom car which was hardly safe enough to be on the road at all, and took the test in that. I'm surprised the examiner agreed to it, although it did have a current MoT.
The worst thing is that for those people to whom driving should be avoided, they will usually eventually manage to pass a test but from that moment onwards their skills, observation and general level of attention will get worse as their belief in their right-to-drive increases.

Driving tests should be limited to a max of 4 attempts. If you don't pass in 4 tries then you clearly arent cut out for driving.
It's no different to giving a loaded gun to someone.
There was a story in the paper of a guy who failed his test but couldnt bear telling his friends and family he had failed so just lied, no one checked and he used the family car as if he was a legal driver. IIRC it was about 3 years later when he got pulled over for something like a faulty bulb that he was found out. For some people, a license is optional. It's no different to giving a loaded gun to someone.

Brute force and ignorance normally. She stopped dead in the middle of the road & then turned right over an island & across three lanes of traffic without even turning her head. I watched a guy in his Metro head towards a speed bump, it's one of the big ones that doubles as a zebra crossing so you can't miss it, and he just hit it at about 40mph! I fully expected a crash but it just bounced over it and he carried on at the same speed, I'm guessing the fact he got away with it was because it's a Metro with that funny suspension and a normal car would have been damaged. The fact it's a 20 zone was irrelevant to him obviously.
I consider them zombies. When you see a zombie film they just say "brains" and walk towards the human regardless of what's in the way. These people are the same but they just say "Asda" and drive towards it regardless.
