I wouldn't say it's been that well publicised.

My car is taxed till the end of the year, and I didn't know (until now) that it couldn't be transferred with the car if I were to sell.

Was well aware of the change that means you no longer need to display.... but nothing more.

But I'm not looking at selling or buying at the moment.. so it's irrelevant to me right now.
Err yeah it has, how are you just learning about this now? there have been endless threads about it here and it was all over the news etc!
Only just joined here byebye, and don't pay a lot of attention to the news.

Combined with the fact that its not relavant to me at the moment.

In the same way I couldn't explain any changes to the Benefit in kind company car tax system..... that I used to know all about when it was relevant to me

We still get occasional threads about, "how does this new tax thing work?" from supposed car enthusiasts. The section of the general public that can't work out lane discipline is going to have no chance understanding the tax changes.
To be fair it is a change from the norm and VED is a distraction for most car enthusiasts - it costs what it costs and is due when it is due.

I personally don't like the new system as the Mrs and I now have to juggle 6 lots of VED, Ins and MOT's very few of which seem to tally up due to SORN's and insurance differences such as new policy taken out at time of purchase on one and on another just having an existing policy altered.

It's got to the point that we are having to diarise all these!

Dont get me started local facebook add for a car her brother responded to stated tax till x date upgraded number plates etc.....

I posted to make both aware that the tax was no longer transferable, also noted that the pressed steel plates with german font but GB logo werent legal and I got a load abuse of the woman selling me telling me I am wrong wrong wrong and posting links to info that was also wrong. I posted you gov and dvla links which were correct.

She put 'christ why won't you just admit you are wrong tt'

Month later the car hasn't shifted and she ain't getting a whisper! As my dad used to say you cant educate pork!
