I often see these idiots out in their scene specials with over stretched tyres and dubious attempts at lowered suspension and always wonder why the Police aren't doing something about it:

But in this story it seems like they did:

(Note as this is from the Daily Wail all 'facts' must be taken lightly)

These tyres are appalling, there is no excuse for that. Do people not check things like that or do they assume an MOT once a year is enough?

Saw two cars with this on the way to work this morning. Both going very slowly along the motorway in the middle lane. I assume they can't go above a certain speed limit before all hell breaks loose??

The general concensus is to hate on anything car related though on these news websites, or the media in general. I actually think that car looks alright, and it has a proper BMW engine - not keen on the tyres though...

There's a civic at my college looking similar to this. Really low, so no clearance, and stretched tyres. I can only assume it has a 1.4 too. I think too low should be illegal.

Just when you think the Wail can get no worse..! biggrin

I have had 70s and 80s cars and not one of them has had anti-lock breaks.

Of all places, the one where you're going to get the attention of the police in a car like that, is N Wales.

I get that the tyres are illegal, but what's all the guff about loose wires and a quick-release steering wheel? Are they illegal too?
And the missing door panels? I drove my Alfa around with a missing door panel for a few weeks when the lock stopped working and had to be replaced. Didn't realise it was illegal.

A few weeks back whilst on the M62 I saw an MX5 with the slammed and stretched tyres and massive camber. Was a bit worrying that someone would think it is a good thing to do with an MX5, which is, last I checked, a car which is supposed to be loved for its handling??

I'm not sure you fully understand how the Daily Wail works. Facts such as what is legal or illegal have no place, the whole raison d'être is to whip the uneducated masses into a seething cauldron of fury.

It's why it is Pistonhead's default tabloid rag of choice. thumbup

Tiny steering wheel, no wonder it looks like it's been in an accident already.

I know that this is the Wail and a quote from the knob-head but 'anti-lock breaks' what's the world coming to if a journalist can't spell.

'Ward is part of a car club that holds track races, car shows and family fun days' rofl I don't think I've ever seen anyone racing with such stupid tyres.

Completely with you on this, they harped on about it in court (and the Wail) to make him look worse. Those tyres are bad, but the baldness is no worse than 50% of the family people carriers you'll find in a supermarket car park. He IS being made an example of for being a bit of a chav and having a car, but as much as that might warm the heart it really isn't justice.

Can't say I'd get in that heap of st for a lift mind you.

Whilst I do not necessarily like his mods (although they serve a purpose, i.e. drifting, rather than just being useless tat "for show"), I struggle to see from the article how he was driving dangerously?
The only thing that appeared to be against the low were the bald tyres?

I can forgive the wiring around the dashboard and the lack of door cards as frankly neither will cause you to crash or pose a serious threat to anyone.

The tyres are a disgrace, there really is no excuse for that.

This!

All I see is a track/Drift car with bald tyres.
