I can't think of way that this is any better then a m135i with the rear biased xdrive all wheel drive system? Probably cheaper as well even if you load up the BMW with the sports auto and the adjustable dampers.

Other than existing in RHD, which is an advantage.

I really get the AMG hatch - but I don't see it as a natural competitor to our M135i. The Merc is such a technology car - it's like a posh badged Impreza while our 135 in manual form feels so much (well in my deranged mind) more like the old Z3M Breadvan - old school sports car (oddly I think the Auto M135 get's a bit too techno and I'd probably go AMG at that point, maybe)! So I could even imagine having both if say the estate Merc was more practical.

I think it's my favourite of the A-class derivatives, but that's not saying an enormous amount.

I just sat with the last two Autocars side by side with articles on these two cars.

The C450 is about £2k more, 100kg more, 0.3 secs more to 60, 20 bhp more, 60 lb ft more.

I can't imagine the C450 is much bigger and will probably be a nicer place to sit and a much less frenetic drive.

For me it's a no-brainer, and very odd range planning by Mercedes.
