I agree that the new car is more expensive. You think it is quite a lot more expensive, but I think a part of that is due to what looks like a stellar deal you had on your car in 2007, being compared to something we have just looked up on an online broker. The other part is that the new VXR is substantially different to the old one - I think it has sufficiently moved up the ladder to justify that price increase, you maybe don't, and that is very subjective.

Looking at another example - the Focus ST - I think here ST does = ST. The old car follows very much the same basic time honoured hot-hatch formula alloys/body kit/hot engine/stiff suspension. And here the inflation adjusted list price of a 2007 ST3 is within a few hundred of the list price today. And if you're willing to have a boggo ST1, you can get it for £17.5k today. I think that is pretty good value.

At the end of the day it was a quick astra, so if you want to replace with the current quick astra, they are the price differences. It doesn't matter if you look at what I paid / would pay for a new one or the list prices - the gaps are the same.
