280bhp / 210 lbft off a rotrex supercharger and associated upgrades.
I'd buy a base spec one at 22k, add some TE37's, eibach springs and the supercharger. Job jobbed. 28k for a far more interesting car.

At least you could rest your Big Mac Meal on the spoiler, I suppose.

I was about to be scathing about the reviewer before he made the same point at the end of the article as I was thinking half way through it- why spend £5k over and above a basic version for a cheaper looking McDonalds car park refugee when you can just buy nicer wheels and tyres for much less? 'Tis madness.

That body kit makes an already awkward looking car look worse. They have no usable performance to speak of (especially as they're meant to be 'sports cars' - hah, right?), the drive isn't all that (albeit only driven twice, and only once for an extended period) IMO, and the interior is 3rd world low rent crap.

I can't imagine this doing anything at all for their already, deserved, woeful sales performance here.

"It's not some wild drift machine - we all know that".
Oh but I disagree kind sir!
The original AE86 (Hachi-Roku) is still regarded as being the very essence of the drifting DNA!
My son still drifts an original 80's car (yes it's modified for the job) and trust me it still impresses in the hands of a seasoned drifter.
No power drifts here - just a beautifully balanced car and handfuls of talent.

I always remember modified cars being criticised for being made to look fast but still harbouring a 'limp' engine under the bonnet. Toyota seem to have adopted this formula with the Aero...
It looks a whole lot more potent than it is..

Said it before and will say it again. I just do not get the GT86 thing, as a car you're actually going to use daily the MX5 is a better drive.
I like the GT86 but agree that this would be the major barrier to buying one... I think I'd prefer the new MX-5 if the initial road tests are to be believed.

Having said that, Drive the Deal can now get you a basic GT86 for £19,341.17 which makes them look pretty good value...

Pram handle for a rear spoiler should keep you from taking off though with all that power.

The wheels are certainly an improvement. The spoiler, less so.

That 0-60 time looks a bit lethargic, doesn't really add up next to the other statistics.
The mid 80's Mustangs had similar power and 0-60 times around 6 seconds flat. Are these really that much heavier?

0-60 is a little disingenuous. The gearing's set for fast, fluid driving; not optimised for an unimportant (to me) stat. They feel faster than 7.5, but once they're moving on decent roads (and I suspect track) they can keep up with most anyway.

7.7s 0-62mph is not representative at all. I can only guess that they are having to snatch 3rd to reach 100km (62mph).

My BRZ will reach 60mph in 2nd, and it feels more like 6 seconds than 7.

I think it looks much better with the kit, but as been pointed out, doesnt have the go to match the show in this iteration.... shame.

Now all it needs is the twin turbo V6 to match the show.

Toyota bring out this aero model, which pretty much nobody has asked for (and looks awful), yet they won't bring out one with a turbo or at least officially support one of the aftermarket upgrades confused

My thoughts exactly, 200bhp and over 7 seconds to 60 it's not as though it is overweight either.

150lb/ft probably goes some way to explaining the figure.

I just can't imagine the meeting where they looked at that spoiler and said; "yup, get it made".
