The Humer Unbeam Interesting Filling Stations Thread
Discussion
Not the best quality from streetview (due to angles etc)
This one is still trading now with the same pumps IIRC (though signs/price board etc are all new now)

And although this is not a petrol station, this old car lot still stands today, in an increasing state of decay. First image is from 2015 and second is from 2009. The cars are slowly going. Its supposedly being built on, but the owner keeps finding excuses not to do anything with it. I believe he will sell you one of the remaining cars if you so wish! In the cages there are even loads of old Sterling finance roof signs that went on the top of the cars!

Birchfield Garage in Much Wenlock was mentioned earlier in the thread and Fishtigua said he remembers it working forty years ago.
I first came across it circa 20 years ago and it didn't seem to be working then. As in for quite a while I passed it twice a day and it was never open and looked cobwebby and unused.

It would be interesting to see what happened to the cars that were there, I wouldn't have minded the Rover 800 that was there! This one is still trading now with the same pumps IIRC (though signs/price board etc are all new now)

That's a hell of a name to have to say when they answer the telephone. The Modur dy'r Wyddfa part is just Welsh for Snowdon Garage. But actually it isn't, what it really means is Motor House of Snowdon. The Welsh for garage is garej.

I may be wrong, but didn't the guy want almost the value of the car new?Despite the fact that it's a Rover 800 with over a decade of decay on it.
A garden machinery specialist in Ashford Hill near Newbury that I discovered by accident. According to the lady in the shop, they stopped selling fuel around five years ago.
"We had a regular customer who would bring his mower in for a service every year and throughout the summer he would pop in for half a gallon for the mower every so often. But he filled his Jaguar up at Tescos. Dead put out he was when we stopped."
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why small independent fuel retailers have become a thing of the past.
This garage was in a local village; it went out of business about 10 years ago and there's now a doctor's surgery on it. The owner was more interested in spending money on his rally cars(and allegedly his mistress) than on running a profitable garage. The poor state of the underground tanks meant it wasn't worthwhile trying to reopen it. The period pics are at least 30 years old or so and I've added google streetview from approximately the same viewpoints.
Pleased Google streetview hasn't caught up yet, as the below was recently bulldozed and new homes built on it.
It must have been like this for YEARS. Really old.
Browney Lane, Meadowfield, Durham.
Wish I'd had a closer look now to see what the remaining signage said.
Plus, as someone mentioned before...there was at some stage an old/rotting Land Rover on there.
