The signage is very appropriate for this thread.

It might be a front for the Special Operation Executive.

This used to be the local garage/petrol station, shut down in about 2006 but has recently been demolished for houses frown

Someone posted 600 odd photos of Hong Kong through the years on my Facebook and I thought this would fit in this thread.

Unbranded petrol station in Widnes. The girl behind the counter thought it was because it was the last family owned filling station in town. So, presumably, they just buy their fuel from wherever they want at the price they want. Sounds good to me.

On a bus heading for the station, I passed this place in Bath during the week. It's probably for the chop as the adjacent lockups are currently being demolished. Thanks to Google Maps I found this recent shot of it in repose. It's really close to the city centre and must be a valuable site.

A couple of weeks ago I was travelling over to Inverurie from Aviemore which took me along the A95 then A96.

There were several interesting garages most of which seemed operational, including one with a Triumph Spitfire and a Lotus Esprit as part of what seemed a motley selection of cars.

I couldn't stop to take any photos and had to go back a different direction but when I get back from work tonight I'll try and google maps some shots.

I've edited to add screenshots:

Here's Aberlour filling station which is still operational and at the time of my passing (Only 3 months after this shot was taken) Looked even better.

Maggieknockater, it's not a filling station but it's a pretty interesting fully operation garage.

Another dealership, with a couple of interesting cars as of google maps 2014 there's a firebird and a saab 900.

Mutch motors, you can see where the pumps were, given the height of the concrete parasol it seems like an old truck stop.

DC George have tidied themselves up but I bet the no longer have a Subaru Brat for sale!

Ashgrove services, still going strong.

I'll stop there for now as the next bit jumps back to 2011 instead of 2014/15

There are plenty more along that road but it's a bloody long process going through google maps to get there so I'll fill in those areas later.

Bodmin. It's on the Launceston Road at the bottom of the hill near Morrisons.

These only got demolished this year, with a lot of other buildings that have otherwise been unused since '94 when the US Air Force left RAF Upper Heyford. Did take quite a few pictures of cars up there over the past few years, weirdly now I live about 200 yards from this site where the new houses are. These pumps were in Dollars, which was cool.

When I went to collect a car from Upper Heyford I looked for those. This would explain why I couldn't find them.

However, I went to collect a car from Burnett Business Park, a former MoD base - whose purpose I have been unable to discover - south of Keynsham and found this:

When I remarked in the hire company's office that their walls seemed rather thick, they told me the building had been the ammunition dump.

There's a facebook page for it, although they've managed to misspell Burnett.

The incorrect spelling is so close you'd think the inter magic lantern net would cope with it.

Thanks for that.

My godfather thought the temporary airfields built in the Home Counties which came and went alarmingly quickly should be recorded by having books written about them. He managed to write one slender volume before he lost most of the use of his hands. He can't type any more. Lovely chap he is, I should get in touch with him.

I love the idea of the prices being in dollars. Greenham air base as was is very close to us and some of the base houses have now been absorbed into the local housing stock. When you drove round they looked very American with fire hydrants dotted about. I'll go and see if the hydrants have survived.

Driving back from Hereford I found this. It was such an easy find I thought I would remember where it was but, other than it's south east of Hereford, I don't know where it is. Twit.
