The Humer Unbeam Interesting Filling Stations Thread

A garage goes from being a garage with filling station to a repair garage with car sales and the sign is altered to reflect this. Then the garage is redeveloped into something completely different, but still the sign survives. It's going to become the house sign, isn't it?
Or it has been bought up by one of the bigger chain retailers (Eurogarages, Motorfuel Group, Malthurst) and is undergoing a complete knock-down and rebuild redevelopment? The sign may be left in place as they want to re-use the foundations for the new one. (often it's the sign plinth that is the only bit left when a site is redeveloped)
Interesting. I shall be the thread's eyes and ears in Wash Water awaiting developments. I know it says Curridge on the sign but it's actually a few miles south of Curridge village. Plus, the garage actually in Curridge is still in business and always busy selling fuel and cars and acting as a convenience store. I'll ask if they are or were related.
These houses in Manchester were built something like 20 years ago I believe, on the site of a former petrol station.
If you look, you'll see the old petrol station pole sign survives, albeit a little mangled:

And the vent pipe. I wonder if there is a legal requirement to identify the location of the old tanks?
20 years ago we were taking tanks out on sites but it wasn't a requirement - they could be kept in situ and filled with concrete. Site decontamination and soil analysis was being done but some small sites just didn't bother if they thought they could get away with it. V6Pushfit said:

Also looks like a nice swap as the merc and ford get swapped for the skodamoda

Used to be a repairs garage and a filling station!
Apologies for the terrible photos I was kicked off the hand within seconds of taking these pictures, bloody curtain twitchers
If your ever in Andover I recommend a look round the outside, very interesting.
Edit; I did upload more photos but can't seem to get it to work
I would like to say I'm developing a sixth sense that helps me to find small out of the way filling stations. The truth is I have sat nav with a warped sense of humour that keeps taking me to out of the way places, some of which have interesting garages. Taking a course parallel to the M4 yesterday, hoping to get around Bath, I came across Nettleton in Wiltshire.
Sorry about the passing car in the foreground, I usually take two shots of everything to avoid this sort of calamity.
I may go back, the pub opposite looked lovely.

Past this place on the way to a job still marked up with four star and Q8 signage, though not quite as busy as it is in the street view.

I rewired the flat above Nettleton Engineeing. Mate of mine used to live there, ran a recovery firm from the workshop behind the big green doors. Pub opposite is nice enough. Look out for various numbplates - BO55 OHH, CO51 PUB et al. Sorry about the passing car in the foreground, I usually take two shots of everything to avoid this sort of calamity.

There's a few in Box (and along the adjoining main road to Chippenham) that might tickle your interest next time you're over this way.Sorry about the passing car in the foreground, I usually take two shots of everything to avoid this sort of calamity.
