So, what amazingly PH Worthy car do you drive then?
you lot need to chill out, the question was simple, is it ph worthy, imo, nope. not about how many are made, or who made it, its about the 'adam', and its pants, and if you disagree, good for you. no matter that i drive cars seemingly faster than yours, slower than yours, or more costly than yours. imho after driving almost everything and anything, this car is 'shoyte'. youy want me to list something to show you how much slower your cars are than mine? ok. you want me to show you that my car is slower than yours ? ok. it ain't gonna sway my opinion. in my teeeny '9 months' (pmsl. like that equates to somekind of readers exp right to comment), of posting, one thing i have learnt is that your opinions are all valid. you want a list of what i drive? ok, knockyourself out. daily driver Smart rag top diesel. shopping and surgery - vovlo xc . faster roofless sunny driver - A5 cab. cos i can at weekends, mazz merak. showing off - an old mulsanne turbo.. flip your bird at me next time i roll by, i will be laughing at you. the adam is a shocker, and if you still disagree, its because you either a: haven't driven one. b: you're wrong!
- yeah, the audi S! is small, but its great

I personally think it is a nice looking car, from the article this new version appears to drive well.I think you may be on the wrong site if you think that this car is not PH Worthy. Luckily it is not you who makes the decision of what is, or is not, worthy and the site is a better place for it. In my opinion of course.

I genuinely don't think there's much of a market for these warm hatches any more. They're becoming way too expensive for what they are.
agreed. all the makers need to start thinking along the lines of the gt86 and the new 'i' bmws. light, skinny wheels, ample power/hybridness. make it fun, make it feel like a baby porker or a baby ferrari. and by baby i mean 1.6 litre max, no more than 3.9 seats, storage for a weeks shopping or 2 folks holiday wear. and make the rest of the thing oooooh so much more desirable. From the Autoexpress website. Nicely summed up.
Should I buy one?:
Whichever way you look at it, the Grand Slam is up against some serious competition. Vauxhall has made it clear that it's targetting the Abarth 595 Turismo, which gets 10bhp more from its 1.4-litre engine but costs almost a full £1000 more than the Adam Grand Slam and gets smaller 17-inch wheels to ride around on.
Both cars also face pressure from the admittedly larger Fiesta ST, a leviathan in all matters concerning hot hatchbacks. And the truth is that for many, the question of what performance hatch to buy will be answered by turning the key of the Fiesta.
That said, Vauxhall's team appears to have filled its brief successfully in creating a performance version of the Adam. The idea of a city car which can also be genuinely fun to drive will appeal to many, and for fans of the Adam who are seeking more power, this is a no-brainer.

How much does this thing weigh man? 150 hp, turbo engine and a 0-60 of 8.5. This is scarcely much quicker than the car I currently own (0-60 in 8.6 on the sheet) which is a) more than 10 hp down b) is a Honda, so less low down torque than a magimix and c) is a whole 2 car sizes above!
(Counting this as Adam, Corsa, Astra == Civic).
1178kg, it's a bit of a porker for a small car. The Swift Sport is 1045kg.(Counting this as Adam, Corsa, Astra == Civic).

SEVENTEEN GRAND for this hunk of st!? Gotta be kidding.
Would you spend £17k on an ADAM or (at 19 years old) £13k on an e46 M3 and 4k on insurance.
After 1 year's depreciation, the M3 will have lost nothing, and the Adam will be worth the same or worse as the M3!!!
Madness.
The only slight flaw is that your £4k insurance premium isn't a one-off cost, you'll have to pay a similar amount again next year.Would you spend £17k on an ADAM or (at 19 years old) £13k on an e46 M3 and 4k on insurance.

I'm not sure about right now but I actually think that if people have any sense the market for cars like this will grow.Small cars with modest power that are quickish but that don't need to be driven at three figures to be fun. Most modern hot hatches are closing in on 300bhp now with frankly insane performance that is unusable most of the time and when it is puts your driving licence at extreme risk. On top of this they get st fuel economy and hammered for road tax. Fast saloons are even worse for insane performance.
I think that in a car like the Adam Grand Slam there will be far more chances to drive it hard and have fun than there will be in a car lke the Focus RS. You will also be able to have fun at speeds that don't mean you're risking a ban or careering into the back of the car that pulled out in front of you because they didn't realise you were doing well north of a tonne. On top of this, when you're not caning it you'll be able to get economy well into the 40s. Your typical Focus ST/RS is going to get 30 mpg driven sensibly, you'll rarely have a chance to put your foot properly down for more than a few seconds at a time and the limits are so high that at less than 3 figures it isn't even breaking a sweat.

Wrong, 4k every year plus the running costs of an M3 including the repairs because it's not under warranty. In 1 years time the M3 will have lost something, because it's not a rare car so values are unlikely to hold up much better than the e36 which bottomed at about 3k. Would you spend £17k on an ADAM or (at 19 years old) £13k on an e46 M3 and 4k on insurance.

Two completely different cars with massively different running costs.

Flol. Only on PH. Would you spend £17k on an ADAM or (at 19 years old) £13k on an e46 M3 and 4k on insurance.

I completely agree with you on the most part. But you're comparing the Adam to cars 2 groups above there. I'm talking more about the new Fiesta ST. Fair enough that's one group above but why you would pick one of these or a similar other warm hatch over the fez makes no sense to me. I'm actually boring myself comparing everything to the new Fiesta. But to my eyes (and in most others it seems) it just can't put a foot wrong.
The Fiesta is very competetively priced.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
