Possibly because PistonHeads readership doesn't completely consist of wealthy supercar owners, and that there are probably a lot of motorists with much more modest budgets who might consider hot hatches and similar such cars of interest?

The difference is that the Vauxhall might deliver the quoted average MPG because I can tell you that the Fiesta ST comes nowhere close.
Very true, the Fiesta quotes about 47mpg. Reality it is actually around 35-40mpg.
Indeed. I picked mine up just before christmas and, rather geekily have been logging every single fill up. Basically 34MPG has been my worst overall, and my best has been 39MPG. But to counter that (before I get torn to shreds on here), blasting it down the back roads coming home from visiting the olds yesterday and fuel economy didn't matter one jot - the engine is a peach, and it handles like an absolute champ. I just can't imagine there's many better new cars for money as an overall package.

Personally, the more i read about the fiesta ST the more of a non-brainer it seems.

What a good car. £17k, great performance, reasonable MPG, quite a lot of standard kit, looks cool too.

I don't think anyone comes close to ford in this area.

invitation to the South of France to drive a new car (let's face it - we all would): this is their report.

Is it the finest new car to be launched this year? Almost certainly not, but not everyone wants a Fiesta / 500 Abarth / Renault / VWAudiSkodaSeat something do they?
there are plenty of other websites that cater for none performance enthusiasts, where they can read up on the latest cars by zanusi etc

but then again "speed used to matter"
The review of this car isn't the death of PH, the death of PH is the brain donors who post rubbish like this. It is a performance variant and it will be bought by people who enjoy driving quickly.

Why? Did he hate small, turbocharged cars?

Or do you think he invented the term 'grand slam'?

Indeed. However some people will only see the badge and the on paper pefrormance figures and without ever driving it decide that it's not a proper performance car so not worth talking about.

Cant you get a Fiesta ST for 15/16 from a broker, appreciate its a bit bigger but 15 grand for a bigger hatch with another 32 bhp that is generally reviewed as the best in class, these would need to be available for 12/13 grand from a broker to compete.

Their loss. We all aspire to rip-roaring V8's and the like but the reality is not all of us can afford that lifestyle. Doesn't make us any less enthusiastic when it comes to motoring though.

Does anyone pay full price for a Vauxhall? I'm sure you'll be able to pick them up for a decent discount.

I agree. I bet that a car in this class is actually a lot of fun to drive fast on UK roads if you value your license. It won't have any pub/wine bar bragging rights though...

Do you think Vauxhall named it after a Tennis tournament?

Partners discount alone used to bring 14% on some cars from VX

let alone what the dealership/salesman will shave off when you go in two days before month end and find the most wet flannel looking salesman to haggle with smile

Erm, it seems more likely than naming it after a ten tonne bouncing bomb.

The term comes from at least the 1800s, probably earlier.

How much does this thing weigh man? 150 hp, turbo engine and a 0-60 of 8.5. This is scarcely much quicker than the car I currently own (0-60 in 8.6 on the sheet) which is a) more than 10 hp down b) is a Honda, so less low down torque than a magimix and c) is a whole 2 car sizes above!

(Counting this as Adam, Corsa, Astra == Civic).

Grand slam wasn't a bouncing bomb, in fact it was the opposite. A deep penetration seismic weapon (ooh err! biggrin )

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek, but whatever the origin the name seems a bit dramatic for this car.

Perhaps 'rice pudding skin puller' would have been more appropriate. biggrin

it will be bought by people who have no interest in cars what so ever, and even then that will be a rare occurrence given that adam's are a rarer site in the SE than 911's
