Also cars don't have 'chick appeal' no matter what you might think. 'Chicks' recognise firstly that you have a car then what colour it is, nothing more. Buying a diesel mpv/hatchback to attract them is really not going to work.

ah so now you're bringing your opinion on my situation into this! Can we please just keep this on the car please? rather than making sly jabs... i know how car insurance works and how it is calculated.
Not sure if this was aimed at me or not, if it was then any offence I caused was not meant. I only bought up my own situation, rightly or wrongly, because I am proud of myself. Each to their own smile

Try...
VW Golf GTI
VW golf 1.6 fsi (or is it tsi?)
Merc C class/c class coupe
Audi A3
Audi A4
Renault Clio 172/182
Fiesta ST

(all petrol)

Its all down to your opinion, with that budget you can buy pretty much anything that takes your fancy by adjusting the car/insurance ratio.

OP if you aren't troll please heed this.

Take 5k of your parent's money, ask them to hold onto the other 10k for you- go travelling, for a mortgage deposit or to help with uni fees later. Buy a normal first car type of thing. You will thank me. What you are proposing to do is very wasteful I.e. Getting an expensive car you will inevitably wreck (as it is your first) and losing 10k in depreciation by the time you're half way through uni.

I agree for any normal car. Most women think spending more than you need to on cars is a silly waste of money. They're right of course, however it's not really different to buying needless, expensive clothes.
If you're rolling around in a really expensive car I'd say you're slightly more attractive to people with average incomes. I don't think people are generally shallow, but it's like a big, rolling, shiny billboard advertising success and financial security. Money is like icing on a cake. You'd eat the cake anyway, but money makes it a bit sweeter.

Back on topic and if this isn't trolling you're a very lucky person. To be honest I'd just buy whatever you think looks and drives ok with the lowest fuel costs. I know your parents are paying for the insurance, but obviously get quotes before buying anything.

Big wafty estate car, 3 series, A4, Volvo V50, Passat etc etc, loads around for the money and spec/criteria you want, 6 speed manual or auto, they are all nice places to be when you have miles of motorway to cover and can carry loads of stuff with ease. I dont think I will buy anything other than estate cars again.

Not sure why 15k is such a ludicrous amount, the OP may come from a wealthy family to whom that is small change.

I think if I could help my three out to that tune I would do, my eldest drives our Citroen C1, would rather have him with his own car, one a bit bigger and stronger than a C1.

This is painful reading. Why shouldn't the OP spend his £15k budget? I would if I was him. And what's all this 'no need to spend that much' crap? YOU didn't spend that much because YOU couldn't. OP can, get over it!

I'm not up to speed on insurance groups so can't really help with car suggestions but best of luck :-) I'd look at German cars personally.

If you're keen on something with a higher ride height that doesn't look like an MPV, perhaps look at the crossover type cars. Nissan Qashqui, Hyundai IX35, Kia Sportage etc.
