Vlad always thought the M135i was a junior supercar so I would tend to agree, he also had a 335d so really the thread should end here!
Does this also mean that a camper van is also a super car if you mention on every thread that you paid for it with cash?

My own definition of a supercar is a mid engine wedge which will have people reaching for their camera phones everywhere you go. Hard to look past the 348 and Esprit, though I think its worth mentioning the Noble M12.

Ferrari 360 or early Gallardos are the cheapest supercars I can think of.

I guess some people wouldn't call the Gallardo a supercar. I guess that's just it - everyone defines these things differently.

How is a Gallardo not a supercar? Will the Huracan be put in the same bracket in a few years as well? If a Gallardo doesn't count then you can't be counting older generation Ferraris either. They look the business, sound great and produce about high 400s low 500s BHP.

Nissan GT-Rs count? The 550 bhp models do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, sitting around £60k. There are some Litchfield tuned ones that produce even more for cheaper.

You can get the supercar look from a 300zx twin turbo for a pittance

we need a defined set of rules here, then we can get a definitive answer........

Maserati 3200, Ferrari v8 with twin turbos in an Italian styled body. All for less than ten thousand if you shop about.
The 3200 was a Maserati engine. Used in the late Ghibli's and earlier shape QP's. Ferrari built the engine in the 4200 onwards..

Indeed, I'm probably inclined to say they are very fancy "sports cars"... but by that rationale a 458 is a sports car and the la ferrari is the super, but that's a hyper... oh christ. I dont care any more!

Trying to boil down what a "super car" is, is bloody hard.

I dont think it's just performance.

Exclusivity (translation... Price = expensive)
Pretty quick, but we all know with a fraction of the money you can get a skyline that'll smash it.
pointy looking

so a 3200 is just a nice GT that has nose-dived in value, not a super car.

some Ferrari examples of my thinking
older models = classics, prices all over the place based on condition/mileage/provenance/etc
355/360... was super, now a classic/modern-classic, see above
430 borderline super/modern-classic
458 Super
Enzo / La Ferrari = Hyper

They equal fast hatchbacks.

Supercars are about noise and head turning looks.

It's not definitive by any stretch, but I naturally think a supercar has to have the engine behind the driver, not just for dynamics but it also helps have a more distinctive look.
