Herein lies the answer. Surely it's about the poster appeal. If it could never make it onto a full size poster it cannot qualify.
Agree 100%

That actually raises another metric.

If it has to be advertised (excluding journo events) then it can never be a supercar.

So the R8 fails because of those epic adverts of it on the rolling road?

Well the R8 fails because it's so very clearly a sportscar but still...

I think a supercar can't come from a mainstream manufacturer and also if it doesn't, it can't really be the baby of the range. They have to represent the absolute pinnacle of what a sportscar manufacturer can make.

If you insist.

However, magazine full colour spreads, billboard hoardings and all the usual stuff that Audi have had to resort to in order to shift units would be better. wink

But it also fails on many other metrics.

So, to add to this, if you had a mythical £50k to spend, could you purchase a supercar?

If so, what would you buy?

I cannot believe no one has mentioned the TVR Sagaris, now that's a bedroom wall poster if ever there was one, OK only six cylinders, but mid engine and 2 seats... Shirly some of you can remember Clarkson doing the supercar stint down the runway where a Cerb slaughtered all comers? A V8 mid engine (2 + 1.5) 0-60 in 3.9 and a tad over 190 top end... And that's standard..

I'm not suggesting they're supercars per se, but if people can talk about 1 series BMW's on a thread about supercars and not mention some of the quickest British sports cars ever built then the (PH) world is well and truly F****d

And for God's sake stop dissing Norfolk, I live there...

Engine is behind the 'front axle', technically a front mid engine car. Rear mid engine - between the rear axle and the passengers. (Michael Caine voice) Not a lot of people know that smile

Front mid just doesn't seem as exotic as rear mid though.

Looks like it has a super charger? It's not standard.

Just bought a Sagaris it's a amazing car and I love the fact it's so rare and appreciating. It's a working class supercar wink
