Not my dad, but can I own up to having had one of these ? bowtie
Same colour and actually was a good bit of kit and a 7 seater
My dad had one in green, easily the coolest & worst car we owned and not the most reliable thing we owned. I wonder how many survived?

My father had a Lancia beta hpe back in the late 70s. I seam to recall myself and my best friend Paul thinking it was so exotic compared to his Mums mk1 Ford escort smile

My folks never spent money on cars, and kept workaday models until they were dead. The list goes: (in each case year of manufacture, then of purchase) Ford Popular, Mini, '70 Cortina 2 ('72), '75 Renault 12 ('77?), '78 Fiesta Mk1 ('79), at the same time as a '76 Mini Van ('82), replaced by '81 Audi 100 ('85) (that one was good), Fiesta replaced by '84 Skoda Estelle ('86), then another Fiesta Mk3.

All were very forgettable, rusty heaps at a very young age. This was the days when Isopon and Holts rattle cans were a regular part of many people's lives. The decent ones were the Audi, the Mini van, the second Fiesta, a 1.6S that went well.

When I compare any of them to even modest cars of the 90's (Astra, Cav, Mondeo) there is no comparison. I wouldn't go back if you paid me.

My dad had 2 Opel Kadetts in the 70s and also 2 Opel Mantas.

That's about as interesting as it gets. Up next was a 2.5 V6 Vauxhall Senator and 2.5 V6 Omega.

Luckily he saw the light and bought a BMW E39 about 15 years ago which is still going strong.

Mum tells me me dad had one of these at around the time I was born:

Then, I think, he got shut of it for a Maestro. I remember, in the early 90's, him having an A-reg Cavalier, a Granada (with a phone), a Rover 214. He's quite tight-fisted and only seems to buy bangers. At the moment he's got an ex-police Mondeo, though he seems keen to actually get something decent. I guess that's down to him gone through his second divorce and now has plenty of money to spare

Does he speak to you or just glare at the ruin of all his hopes and dreams?!

Car! Luxury! My dad had to make do with my Auntie's cast-off bike!

That left me to make all the mistakes ...Austin 1300 (auto), Harvest Gold Marina 1800 (tasteful brown vinyl roof). And a TR7.

There are a lot more where they came from too, but enough shame for one post.......

First car I remember my Dad having was an Austin Cambridge. After that it was a green Zephyr 6 MK3 (I used to start it up weekly when he had a spell in hospital) and then came the Cortinas, which he had till he passed away. He did have an Audi 100 for a short while once, but he loved a 'tina.

First car I remember was a red Peugeot 405, before that my dad had two Capri's. He replaced the 405 with a Rover 600...the 90's weren't good for my dad and cars.

I don't really remember much about what the cars were like, but I can remember what they were.

xxxxxxx - Astra ESP (?) - Red
xxxxxxY - Astra GTE - Black
B431EAK - Astra GTE - White
D676TOD - Sierra 2.0 (LX or GLX) - Silver
H430ATA - Escort 1.6 LX - Red
Mxxxxxx - Mondeo 1.8 TD LX - White
T802AAF - Focus 1.8 TDi Zetec - Silver
WF02UKS - Focus 1.8 TDCi Ghia - Black
ST06xxx - Mondeo ST TDCi 2.2 - Blue - CURRENT

I was born when dad had the white Astra GTE. Don't remember it as all but according to the DVLA, it was written off a few years after dad sold it. Probably to a youth who couldn't cope with the power.

My dad has some fun cars, but the one I remember the most was his Capri 2.8i. A notable memory was being on the autobahn with it maxed out showing 130-140mph on the speedo with a Porsche 928 stuck to our bumper trying to get past smile

Other great cars that he had:

2 x Escort RS Turbo's (Mk2's)
E30 325i 2 door (J reg!)
E36 325i Coupe
E36 328i Coupe
E36 330i Coupe

My dad had 2 of these, one quite nice but the other a full on Friday afternoon special. In 3 years the garage had it more than he did.

I remember my dad having one of these, but in a horrid maroon colour.

We went away for a couple of weeks on holiday and when we came back I still remember the mould, particularly all over the seat belts. Guess they weren't particularly watertight, look even more boxy than I remembered too.

He did most of his mileage in one of these though. wink
