Hang on, if there's one thing I've learned from the 'drive petrol not diesel' thread it's that modern diesels are whisper smooth and not clattery or agricultural in the slightest. James May must be mistaken.
Oh yeah; good point :-)

May needs to tread carefully. In the nanny BBC/Lefty state we live in, that could get him sacked too.
Being sacked for a sustained assault on a work colleague is hardly a signifier of a nanny state - just a normal, civilised one.

I like JC and Top Gear, but that behaviour is inexcusable at the best of times - especially if, as we are lead to believe, it was over something as trivial as poor catering.

And yet it was fine for Alex Ferguson/Eric Cantona/John Prescott.

....and it's an alleged attacked.

I don't understand your point. Others have done similar and got away with it, so that should make it fine?

And how is it 'alleged'? There is surely no doubt that he physically assaulted a producer. He reported the incident himself, and there were witnesses.

Not sure if serious? 6 and 8 pot diesels are smoother, but not 4 pot. Just yesterday a brand new 520D was cruising around a carpark I was walking through, it sounded awful. Maybe not as clattery as an old Transit, but still way below 'executive'.

I notice these things. I am currently looking for a Merc CLS to replace my BMW. I have a choice of 350D or 350 Petrol and V8 petrol. Guess what I'm not choosing. I do 20k miles a year too. Life is too short.

Given he was making the (presumably lefty) point that Diesels are polluting when just sat there idling why do you think your statement is true?

Any engine left idling unnecessarily contributes to pollution. Its just a bit worse when they're diesel.

And without wanting to duplicate JC thread, no-one can behave like that and not face consequences. Imo classic sign of star thinking they're too successful for rules to apply to them. Shame, as in his columns and books he comes across as really quite grounded.

Its for the best anyway. Comedy should be killed in its prime, not left to grow tired and forced.

Blackadder demonstrates this lesson well.

Pretty sure there was a large dollop of sarcasm with that post.

Bye bye £60million a year cash cow they just killed.

I suspect Top Gear will be back, but they will turn it into a fifth gear (never watched as its crap) and it will die shortly afterwards.

Whoever gets Clarkson and co will be laughing all the way to the bank as Top Gear is clarkson.

For the lefties at the BBC there can only be one choice.

Thick, annoying, utter utter tosser, tree hugger, lightweight, PC Icon.

Got to be Ben Fogle.

I'm surprised he didn't go outside and split all their lips and send them to A&E- he's a TG presenter isn't he?

Anyone see his shot interview after the news broke- legendary hat choice Mr May!

What a bizarre post. Of course he's completely unsuitable for top gear. But to describe a man who has rowed across the Atlantic and raced across the south pole as a lightweight? scratchchin Wat.

Or maybe he was just moaning about the noise.

Either way we don't need another bloody stupid Top Gear thread re-hashing the same thing over & over & over again.

Not BS - Any property that has equipment CAPABLE of receiving live TV broadcasts needs to be covered by a TV licence - it's down to you if you want to argue that you never use that facility. It is on that basis that Capita will continue to chase after licence payments as there aren't many households without such equipment (ie most TV's have built in tuners these days). You are also covered for watching live TV on a portable device by your property's licence at other locations; until you plug it into the mains then the location you are at needs to be covered by a licence. The only clear way around this is if you solely use devices that don't have a TV tuner built in and never use iPlayer for it's live channel broadcasts smile

My brother has a TV capable of receiving live TV broadcasts and does not have a licence and the TV folk are happy with this as he only uses it to watch non live tv and for xbox.
