I get stuck in this odd juxtaposition whereby I don't want to pay dealer prices, but don't want to deal with the general public either.

It's not all bad though - I bought my VXR8 from a jolly nice American chap who kindly took me around his local US Army base where he worked to fill up with "gas" (at something stupid like 40p/litre) to brim the tank for my journey home. A bizarre experience, it was stepping over the boarder into the US. One of my more interesting buying experiences.

If only it was always as straight forward as that.

Looked at another today. Jess wept! Are people incapable of telling the truth / looking after their car?

Vvt rattle, keyed, air con not working, remote central locking not working, main window switch not working, damage to rear quarter panel and c pillar from brick falling on it, from front wing looks like it has been replaced as it doesn't line up with the bonnet or bumper.

I know the feeling, when looking for a Lupo GTI this problem was worse as there aren't many around. Drove all the way to Glasgow only to discover that the pictures of the car on the advert were from when the seller bought the car from a lady who used it for shows. Since then it had been neglected. 500-mile round trip to see a falsely advertised car. mad

You get what you pay for so don't expect new car quality and service for no money from a private seller. Dealers and guarantees cost more for a reason.

I go to every car expecting a shed. If you believe that all of the faults in my last post are acceptable for a 7 year old car for £4500 then I have a lovely ford orion for sale, yours for £6700 hehe

No. But you do expect it to be as described. Not that dealers are any better there. frown
