ive just noticed my front tyre is starting to loose bits of its tread. im going to take them back to the fitters this weekend, but thought id get opinions on here first. they've done about 9k and are only 18 months old fitted to a 03 Seat Leon 110bhp.

Looks OK. I regularly dig out small stones and flints from the tread. Probably not acceptable if you live in an urban area, but in the countryside you pick up 1001 stones.

got the same tyres on mine no issues. Front ones are getting near to the wear indicators, but I've done 47k on them, the rears are fine.

Don't want to point out the obvious, but how hard are you driving?

I've lost tread blocks on various cars with various tyre sizes and brands, but it's always as a result of making rather spirited progress...

its a 110 tdi so im not exactly able to drive spirited anywhere. I have a 280bhp 850 T5R for the spirited stuff, and even then I take it easy, compared to most, as its 20 years old. ive never had a tyre do this, its almost like the compound is breaking up. the other side is considerably in better shape. one of the holes is a smooth dent, like the rubber just dropped out.

Hyundai fit these as standard and I've not seen any behave like this. Possibly a patch of road youve driven on has damaged the tyre, I don't think the tyre is delaminating.
Did you have 2 or more fitted at the same time?

yes the one the other side is more or less ok, and it was fitted at the same time. ive just never seen a tread show this sort of all over damage, its like not one of the edges is damage free. I just cant see how this has occurred unless I drove down a road with shrapnel over it.

this damage is around the entire circumference of the tyre.

It's also showing some obvious cracking. I'd look for the date on the tyre as they appear quite old.

I did 48,000 miles on a set of these fitted to my old MK 1 Punto with no problems at all.

Apart from one of the comedians in our workshop painting the flowers yellow for me.

I think you should report it to the DVLA.
