My 1990 Lancia Integrale 16V – no sunroof, aircon, driving lights or ABS originally sold in Italy… Somebody must have been on a tight budget but wanted to experience driving an Integrale. But now makes for a lighter car with a stiffer shell.

Purchased my Escort shooting brake for scrap money. 1.4 auto, massive dash clock, manual windows and mirrors, no radio, but a tilt and slide sunroof which on a Ford of this vintage was obviously for long term weight saving reasons as they rusted taking the roof with it.
Sold that on and reinvested in this Super Deluxe Coupe. Deluxe getting me 2 wing mirrors, blue vinyl interior and LW radio.

The MK1 base (E?) had a crappy round headlight in the square hole.
My sister's driving instructor had one of those back in the 80's!The Sanderos are great; You just go in and buy a new car with a warranty for peanuts and don't even have to worry about the colour.
Were I forced to buy new, I'd take a Duster Access 4x4
and a Caterham Seven 160
Great thread
I remember having to fit your own radio and speakers.
My first car was a Renault 6 with the push/pull/twist gear lever. I fitted a radio with a homemade bracket and then made a hole for the aerial on the roof using a hammer and a 6 ins nail.
If a wing mirror got knocked off you just went to the motor spares shop and bought a similar sized one for a couple of quid.
That whole car cost me the same as the price of a modern car's wing mirror.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! You might as well put forward an Arial Atom or a Caterham; they don't get much more basic.

The TD5 E model was even more basic, with steel wheels and no sunrooves. I think that it didn't even have storage boxes instead of the 6th and 7th seats.
I was after 7 seats so I don't think they were even on my radar. No sunrooves is a distinct bonus. - Mine's got every factory extra except rear AC (don't want as it takes-up too much space). I would love a base 300TDI though to use for the things I daren't do in my TD5! Ideally it'd be a non-metallic green 5-door manual with a beige cloth interior, no sunroofs, no headlamp washers on the front bumper and these wheels:
I have to say it though - I think Chris Harris has outdone us all in the poverty-spec stakes.

I like a funny spec in cars:
Well, my Crown Vic Police Interceptor fits the profile.- Cloth/velour/alcantara seats (manually adjustable)
- Manually adjustable steering column
- No satnav
- No aircon
- Smallest possible wheels (preferably steel)
- Biggest possible petrol engine
- Cruise control
- Heated everything
4.6 V8, 4-speed auto.
It has cruise control, power driver's seat, windows and mirrors. On the other hand, the floor is rubber coated, there is no center console, seats are cloth and the key doesn't have remote control. A/C is manual, and audio is a 2-speaker casette player. Police spec steelies fitted with 225/60 R16 tyres.
There is no TCS, but a proper mechanical LSD.
