As a lorry driver , doing 100000 miles a year , I see all sorts of magical drivers on the nations roads. Examples. Those that run the hard shoulder with the hazard lights on when motorway traffic is stationary . Or them that drop too 20/30 mph on the hard shoulder to take a call . Whilst on the subject of motorways , what is a motorway slip road for ? Correct , for joining a motorway , but it also , a length of road to get your speed up on . Enabling you to join the traffic flow safely , note if lane 1 & 2 are occupied , what are you hoping to achieve by barging across on faster moving traffic ?
A roads , soon the law is changing . But at present I'm governed to 40mph in a national speed limit single carriageway , such as the a17 . The scene of today's master class , I can always tell when it's Grand Prix weekend . So I'm doing my 40 , nice relaxing drive , but I'm being stalked by an Astra who insists on presenting himself on the white line and in my mirror . So you get a nice long straight plenty room to safely overtake , does he fancy it ? No , he waits for the bend or a little bit of traffic , before he hits his full on senna mode . Note , putting the other driver in the position where he gives way or crash s only really works on a track ... He's off anyway , in 5th , tip: take a gear or plant the right foot , why on earth are you hanging about . Go go go .
Reference foreign lorry s , I drive in Europe so I speak with experiance , why do you car drivers insist on hanging around in a lorry s blind spot , BLIND SPOT, some times no matter how we try , that car is invisible . Is it any wonder there is so many side swipes on the roads. You see a lorry being driven tentatively , is he lost , is something wrong . Why don't you just give it a little time to sort himself out. Are you really that desperate to get past ?
Roundabouts . A lot of roundabouts in this country are poorly designed or unsuitable for the size of vehicles that often need to use them . Why do so many car drivers seem to think a roundabout is there to provide them the opertunity to overtake ? Look at the shape of an artic , at some point it's going to cut in and you being the stig's love child are going to be doing your racing line stuff, it ll make an awful mess out of your max power fibre glass body kit , think on !
What I'm trying to say is try to be abit more courteous and drive safe

Needs some formatting and expletives, but a decent rant nonetheless. Good closing statement, applies at all times whilst driving anything on the road.

Lorry drivers, if you don't want 29.5 tonnes of potatoes in two heaps on your trailer, get you fat carcase out of you cab, climb up onto the trailer platform and direct the loader driver to where you want the box tipping instead of bhing about it when the trailer is full.

Then the amount that I see watching laptops and Ipads would terrify you. Although early 20s women texting with the phone next to their thigh wins for sheer volume.

Unfortunately some people are just terrible drivers. I think one of the reasons younger drivers are such high risk is they don't actually realise how dumb people can be and don't make appropriate (where possible) allowances. Just you tube "road fails" for some astonishing examples.

The other problem is it seems to be human nature to have an us and them attitude. Since the majority of vehicles on the road are cars, their driver's seem to think they are at the top of the food chain and as such have no patience for other types of road user.

It's a good analogy about the grand prix, as a lot of the time it really is only seconds they're saving on their journey that they're taking big risks for. The number of times people make really dodgy overtakes to get past me on my push bike only to get held up 5 seconds later by the rest of the traffic in front astounds me.

Make at least a theory test compulsory at least every 10 years as I swear some people don't even know they're in the wrong most of the time. Especially the middle lane hoggers who sit there with no inside lane vehicle in sight, grrrrr!

Your load, your responsibility.

I would have thought the fact that the top of the trailer is at least 7 feet higher than the roof of the loader cab and a piece of steel that can't been seen through would be clue enough, unless he thought that the specs I got from Boots are somehow prescription x-ray fking specs.

10 years ago i'd have been right up there with the OP, fighting the lorry drivers corner, etc, etc.
These days though, considering how lorry drivers standards have sadly dropped, (may only be my opinion though) i'm not so sure.
Pay peanuts, get monkeys could be blamed for a lot of it i think, especially with the whole influx of a lot of our european cousins.

The title was a sweeping generalisation, but in my own experience the OP probably isn't that far off the mark.

Rather than few or all - I would say many.

Drivers of slow moving vehicles - does it ever occur to you to pull over on single carriageways to let the queue of frustrated traffic past? Or are you too important, being a professional driver and all?

I see self absorbed tttishness from drivers of all sorts of vehicles.
