Would this be recorded on the service history/v5 by chance?
The only thing that'll be recorded (you'll need an HPI check) is if the insurance have written it off. Anything else? No. If the insurance repaired it? No. If it didn't go through insurance? No.

A little parking scrape like that? Definitely not.

signs the head gasket had blown, coolant was contaminated too - staying well away and looking elsewhere!

Shame. And sadly it comes to them all!

Take your £1k and chuck it at a focus, you'll get a better handling car for the money and the head gasket will be made from something other than old knicker elastic and bits of dirt from the BL factory floor. smile

I'll be taking my brother with me, who is very familiar with motors and will be able to spot many things, especially under the bonnet.
Is this the same brother who told you to get a Peugeot 307 because it'll be 'reliable'? hehe

It's just a small scrape against a post or wall nothing to worry about.

- as it happens, he did tell me to stay away from it, especially for electrical issues it has. i just got fed up of him advising me against all my suggestions so that's the one i went for (at the time). never bothered to repost that i forgot about that / correct people as it would've just caused further pointless debate!

OP needs to make decisions for himself, actually smash

I'm after a ZR as it's one of few hatchbacks that firstly have over 100hp, that cost under £1.5k(ish) and i actually like the look of (facelifted, mk2)

I had a Rover 200 diesel, which is mostly the same as the ZR above just heavier and faster (probably). I moved onto a Focus 1.8 petrol.

You should look at a nice Focus with the biggest engine you can insure, they are quite roomy, fast enough with airbags and other safety crap.

The only things that broke on my Focus in about 2 years was a spring and the rear wiper motor.

I did like the Rover I just was a bit queer about safety ratings and stuff at the time.
