I suggested one of these in another thread, originally launched in 2003:-

(Infiniti FX35)
Big wheels, high waistline, thick pillars, thin light cluster.

I think we have a winner.

Not even slightly, imo. Compare to the new MX5 (which is relatively restrained) and this looks positively ancient.

Those do look modern / new... but also partly because they are quite rare over here I think.

... I was tempted to add the Porsche 968, I just think they look better today than they did when first launched.

Minus one for the punto.

Modified, with a photo from the best possible angle and suggesting further modifications required surely doesn't count.

Nah, the second generation TT didn't look good even when it came out.
Looks a lot better than the third generation one which has become an awkward clone of the corporate message.

With an ageless number plate I reckon even most PHers would be unable to tell if a Porsche 997 was 3 years or 12 years old.

Non-enthusiasts would think a 19-yr old 996 looks pretty much the same as a brand new 991.

Still amazed when I see a shiny XK and then realise it is a '96 -'97 built car. I know some owners have put later model year lights on etc. but they still look pretty modern imho.

Don't you think the new mx5 is a rip off of the 20 year old z3 design? I certainly do.

This

The 924/944/928 shape hasn't aged at all and still looks fresh today.

The interior gives it away, hardly surprising since the shape was launched in the 70's. Contemparies included, Ford Cortinas, Austin Allegros, Triumph TR7s & Vauxhall Cavaliers, MGBs were still current and Mercedes were just launching the W123 E class.

Are you lot fking mental? fk me. Have you actually seen what cars look like these days?
It was launched damn near 40 years ago. If the car was a bit bigger, a heavy facelift would have it looking of the minute. Imagine the body panels sharpened, a few pointless creases down the sides and some tacky LED lights.

Most of the cars in this thread don't look that old because they aren't! Mostly one model cycle old and only bland boxes in the first place.

As the plate suggests, thats the 03 facelift car.

The 2000 car had the older looking bumper and lights.

Front and rear views age the Z3 quite a bit compared to the MX5.

Anything with unpainted bumpers looks 'old', even a showroom fresh Dacia.

Better!

I deliberately chose a picture without badges earlier as badging is very fashion-prone and dates a car unnecessarily. The only other mod on that car were the wheels.

Thick pillars, a window line that undercuts the bonnet profile, and a tiny rear window are common on small hatches today but were almost unheard of in 1999 when the S2 Punto appeared.

I suggested changing the light clusters, but even as standard they could pass as more than basic spec today as they have projector units built in.

The S2.5 facelift was one example where the newer car looked older than its predecessor.

These threads pop up every once in a while, and every single time people completely miss the bloody point.

To suggest a 928 looks modern is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, it's a very pure design that has aged gracefully, but it looks nothing like any modern car.
You're right, it looks nothing like a new car. Looks to damn good.
It does, but that's what constantly changing regulations does for you. How many times have we seen a stunning concept car, only for the production model to be a relative abomination?

Thats a 5dr though. 5dr versions of 3dr cars always look crap.

I nominate the Audi A3. Thats been basically the same car for 20yrs.

In what way exactly? Other than the fact that they're both red, and convertible, and they both need doors and wheels, I simply cannot see any similarity at all. Certainly no 'ripping off'. What can you see that I can't?
