Not even slightly, imo. Compare to the new MX5 (which is relatively restrained) and this looks positively ancient.
Don't you think the new mx5 is a rip off of the 20 year old z3 design? I certainly do.
Yes, they could be twins. rolleyes

I've just had to go on google images to make sure that a Porsche 928 is the car I thought it was - with all this talk of them looking modern I thought my memory must be playing tricks. As a little experiment I showed a picture of one to a colleague who knows basically nothing about cars and asked them when they thought it was made - they reckon it 'looks 80s', and I agree.

In what way exactly? Other than the fact that they're both red, and convertible, and they both need doors and wheels, I simply cannot see any similarity at all. Certainly no 'ripping off'. What can you see that I can't?
Obviously the nose is different other than that its very similar. The side lines are almost identical and the rear is also very similar. It looks like a successor to the z3 more than it does to a mx5 to my eyes.

5 pages and no one has mentioned the Volvo 850. The car transcends age or genre. It could be released tomorrow and still look fresh.

Have you actually seen what cars look like these days?
Yes. Almost uniformly gopping; a vulgarity bubble based on styling cues from Mattel Hot Wheels or children's training shoes, depending on how old the 'designer' was at the time.

Thats a 5dr though. 5dr versions of 3dr cars always look crap.

I nominate the Audi A3. Thats been basically the same car for 20yrs.

You could say the same about 911's

I suggested one of these in another thread, originally launched in 2003:-

(Infiniti FX35)
Big wheels, high waistline, thick pillars, thin light cluster.

I think we have a winner.
It seems to be made in the same mold as the Macan and dare I even say the 2016 Masser Levante. Staggering its 13 years old when you consider how dated its rivals from back then look - X5, RR, ML etc.

Laguna mk3 still looks modern. It probably helps that there aren't many about. Came out in 2007.

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage and to a lesser extent the early DB9 are both 10+ years old and looking very good.

The Ariel Atom looks very good and having seen a couple the other day, the S1 Elise does not look it's 20+ years old either

Haters gonna hate but still think it looks pretty good for ten years old:

Nah, the second generation TT didn't look good even when it came out.
You're confusing looking "new" and looking "good"

There should be a test really. Stick a private plate on and take it to the pub. If the local barfly goes 'Coor, I like your new car.'

I think a Volvo 850 would fail this test.

The BMW Z8 could be unveiled today as a 'modern retro' sports car and still look current.
