Well you can colour me surprised. Any thread about Top Gear is full of people whinging that it's "not a real car show" like the old Top Gear, yet the old Top Gear is still alive in spirit in Fifth Gear and no one wants to watch it??

I enjoyed it.

My better half kept asking me who the annoying bloke with Tiff was. I explained he's the object that many PH fanboy onanise ( I bet that isn't even a word biggrin) over for some inexplicable reason.

There's an element of truth there though.

Well to be fair the BBC did throw a sizeable production budget at TG as well. The photography is some of the best done stuff on TV.

Unfortunately being on C5, Fifth Gear has about £4 to make every episode and frankly it shows. Not that I dislike Castle Combe circuit, but the high-def photography on Harris' YouTube videos is better than the production on Fifth Gear.

I've avoided 5th Gear for years - I'm watching this series and... well... it's not quite paint drying but it's really poor. It might be budget, but watching the three of them talk about cup holders and floor mats in a Fiat isn't interesting. At all.
Well that's why Top Gear went in the direction of car based farce and travel show. People criticized that it could be bigoted and childish, but the fact is that any non-car person isn't interested in watching a show that's like a rolling shopping channel. Most simply test drive new cars for themselves and decide what they like for the money.

I like watching Tiff and Plato muck about on track and make insightful comments about the cars, but other than that I can take it or leave it.

I agree and TG is shot like a movie or something, they have/had a big budget due to the huge audience. My only slight criticism is that sometimes they excessively boosted colours and lowered brightness.

Not watched for a long time and forget it's still on, having recently binned Sky I won't be able to see it anytime soon.

Never been a fan of Tiff TBH.

And it's painful watching him walk up to a car with a cover on he pulls it off acts surprised and then goes "this is a 1967 mk1 --insert car-- only 200 produced this one with the mk2 engine" seriously get rid of the cover and just walk round it saying what it is.

Same for all the secret underground layer st otherwise it's actually a pretty good show.
