From the wording on the sign it could be argued that you didn't stop to drop off or pick up, you stopped because the traffic was stationery.

There's a spot closer to the dropoff where the git can't get you, I know this doesn't help but I feel smug saying it biggrin
But someone got into the paper car.
The sign says "No stopping at any time to drop off or pick up". Strictly speaking he didn't, he stopped because the traffic was stationery. Semantics I know, but rules is rules biggrin
You're running roughshod over the rules of spelling so why should he follow any he doesn't like?

I'll give Gatwick some credit here - drop-off is free (AFAIK), pick up is charged at either short-stay rates, or you get two hours free in the long-stay car parks (although you need to take the bus to the terminals).

AND recently I accidentally took the wrong lane into the short-stay car park but exited and wasn't charged.

Just take a photo of the airport, it's a concrete hellish nightmare, pretty sure nobody uses it out of perceived loyalty or ranking it as a good airport. It's purely cost.
We use LTN as it's closest.

When we flew to South Africa recently via LHR T5 the hassle factor was significantly reduced - no paying for drop-off, no paying for trolleys, no queuing at check-in. And then when returning, no scrambling around for money for the trolley and not far to walk to get in to the car.

LTN scrabbling around for a few extra quid in change is really putting me off using them in the future.

Stansted Only a quid for ten minutes,

A sign before you turn off the roundabout and get to the end of a one-way section would have been nice instead of suckering you in. I wonder how many other people have been caught out like that?
It's £2 for 10 minutes then £1 for every minute over 10 minutes, so if you are stuck there for say 15 minutes it's £12 to get out.

The machines often reject coins, and there is often a collection of rejected coins in the reject tray. If you move your car forward a little bit I am sure you would be able to reach them and hand them in on your next visit wink

If your coin is rejected press the help button, say the machine won't accept your coins and they will open the barrier and let you out for free. Apparently wink

Just the whole atmosphere puts me off, standing "at the gate" AKA loitering in a concrete corridor, crammed at even un godly early hours. Heathrow terminal 2 at Christmas to get a slightly longer flight to the same destination as Luton, faster, peaceful and a nice breakfast in a classy restaurant, far nicer. The gf is convinced though that an extra 1 hour 30 min of travel time and a few extra miles to drive rules it out :/

There is a serious security loophole too, I have emailed them about it, never a reply. It is possible to get from the main departure hall to the gates without going through security. I use STN once a month and it is always possible. They don't care. I hate Stansted, by the way, can you tell?
Come on spill! smile

I have to use STN once in a while and hate the security queue there with a passion. Any way to not have to use it would be appreciated. wink

Forget it. I have tried that when queuing at customs for 90 mins at Stansted, aka Standstill airport. They never reply.

You might get a better response telling the police, rather than the airport, as it would be Plod picking up the pieces if the worst was to happen. I guess it would come under the Met anti terrorism squad.

Have you used Southend airport? It's a dream. They just don't have too many destinations at the moment.

£40 ticket? Sounds like a private ticket and not something that is enforcable.

Does the ticket state any statute or legislation by which it's enforcing the fine by?

I noticed recently there's a free drop off point at midstay, which is only a 2 minute bus ride away from the terminal.

The sign is very small.

BHX - the international railway station which is connected to the airport has 20 mins free parking, or 'free' drop off too. Monorail take 2 mins into the terminal. Or park in the Ibis hotel dropoff and both get out, walk into the hotel with luggage. Then you walk out and leave.

Used LGW recently to ferry family to and fro...the car parking for short use is confusing - one whole floor nearly empty but signs everywhere telling you not to leave a car unattended (in a car park).

And who wants to use Long Term Parking with coach rides just to collect a visitor?

It's not as if the website gives you any answers, either...

Meh.

For STN the only way to go is Valet parking. 2 minute walk to terminal and free fast pass through security.

Hell they even seem to have finished fking up Passport Control on the way back in - although the row is now so long it takes the eyes of prey to spot which desk is free smile

Good call, the airport drop off is farcical on a busy day, Int'l is way less hassle and just as quick, but how long until the station drop-off gets "monetised"? For the time being though, just to give people another BHX tip, you can park at the international station over a weekend for less cost than any of the airport long stay car parks, and it's just as close (a lot closer than some of the long stay parks over by Coleshill and Marston Green!). Park up in the car park opposite the main entrance, then straight into the station, up the escalator, just jump on the Maglev (I know, but I can't remember the name of the new thing) and you're at BHX in 5 mins.

T5's pretty well set up, you're supposed to park in the short stay carpark for pickups but there's nothing stopping you from picking up in the drop off point if they're ready to go. Easy to get to with its own M25 junction, and we always use one of the valet parking companies as it's only a few quid more than the long stay car parking and so much more convenient to walk out of the terminal straight to your own car rather than having to spend 20 minutes on a bus tog get to the car park.

The best thing about T5 is using the business parking and pretending to be a Bond villain riding in the little pods to the terminal biggrin

Airports often (not always) have their own byelaws which include parking (the same as some train stations do - for example, Northern Rail stations).

If Luton has its own byelaws then a private parking company shouldn't be enforcing at all (it is a matter for the magistrates' court wink ). No doubt the PPC ticket will refer to the Protection Of Freedoms Act (POFA) 2012 - OOPS! loser (In general terms, airport byelaws will override POFA.)

PePiPoo's "private parking tickets" forum will reveal all...

No way I'm sticking that in the public domain. I'm sure you're legit but I don't want nutters to know, even if STN airport don't give a st about security.
wink hence the winky. I wouldn't really expect anyone sensible to post something like that in public.

Although I will be on the look out for the flaw next time I go through there. smile
