As mad as this thread is, I've got to admit some affinity with the original sentiment. For a while now I've been plotting a reverse tuned hatch.

The concept being "as close to a rallycross car as possible whilst looking as visually indistinguishable from a poverty spec 1.0 hatch as possible".

I've always centered around a clio as it has the greatest juxtaposition of tuning part availability vs basic look of the boggo 1.0 - the problem being that modern hatches don't have enough of a disparity across the range anymore.

...then I saw the new Focus RS and figured that might be the simple solution to my needs. ...Buy one, have the povery spec bodywork screwed on. Downsize the alloys. I'd probably need to downspec the interior too, if I was going to stick to the original plan.

I can't be the only one - surely???
You are not the only one.

And in the same vein, I'd love to drop my aerodeck onto some EVO running gear, whilst leaving the exterior stock.

Proper sleepers.

No Ferrari butchering involved.

Sadly it's time... Happy April 1st gents! Thanks everyone for being such good sports! smile

To confirm, I love the top-end-Golf-MR2-alike and promise I won’t be taking an angle grinder to it. In fact this afternoon, once I’ve changed out of my school uniform and had some Ambrosia Light, I’m gonna treat her to a good clean and polish by way of apology for bricking open the window yesterday.

(thinking about it, the weight of all that dirt must currently be reducing its BHP??)

Have a great day everyone!

Lol, very good, however, April fool posted on 30th March ?

Sorry, but by the rules, i.e. invoking Custard, you have to now cut it up.

Oh very good, I'm most disappointed wink

I always rather fancied buying a Honda Jazz (preferably in that 'gum-disease pink' colour they did) and turning it into a track car, complete with a box of Kleenex cable-tied to the rear parcel shelf. I'm sure a K20 would fit in there somehow...

You realise its Light Custard, don't you? F*cking Light custard.

On the April Fool's thing, I think the point is it has to happen on April 1st, not March 31st... but what can you expect from someone who thinks Light f*cking custard is acceptable?

  • edited to get the Light custards right.

Best quote of the thread! "speed matters" should be changed for this.

There's a turbo or supercharged one running around Scotland. Fairly sure it's over the 300bhp mark. Heard a few stories about it surprising a lot of fast cars!

May well be this one:

And April fools starting early is just a no-no especially when there was no chance it was EVER serious!

Yeah, good point. Having Light f*cking custard has to add a good 10bhp.

Mk2 Focus RS's are holding their values too much to start butchering as as described.

If you really wanted to do that, I'd be looking at a Focus ST, with rep-spec exterior & interior. Cheaper to buy to begin with, and you've still got a nice 5 pot turbo lump to play with.

Well other than the tuning items I'm not sure any of the "butchering" isn't reversible...

On reflection, I think you might be right. I'd put it out of my mind for reasons I can't now justify.

Ok let's do this then.

Exhaust: Can a performance exhaust be cut short to exit under the car? I thought exhausts had to legally exit the bodywork, but looking at the Fiesta Studio the stock one doesn't..

Wheels: There are some alloys that look reasonably like steelies, but I wondered if it'd be possible to go even further and bond hub caps to the outside. If the width or diameter of the wheel was slightly greater than standard (for brakes/ track/ contact patch size) I guess that wouldn't be the end of the world. It looks like the standards are 14"

Suspension: Can the car be set up to look like it's on stilts as per the Studio, but still give neat fast road performace.

Tuning: who's out there for Fiesta tuning? As much as I'd love to go 700bhp anti-lag etc. I think i'd need some degree of reliability, so where are the bhp-points at the moment? I do think a discreet dual-map ECU switch might appeal to my knight rider childhood.

Just put a Ferrari air freshner dangling from the rear view mirror - nobody would believe it was a real one if you did that.
