I like it despite it being pretty fussy looking, but that's BAU these days unfortunately. Surprised to read that it's bigger in every dimension than the 650s, inc 17cm wider, good to read that it's circa 200/250kg lighter than a 911 turbo.

So the engine produces a bit less power and the same torque as the mp4-12c, it couldn't be the same engine could it? Might have saved a few quid in development.

To my mind it's positioned too close to the 650s, at around 20kg/80bhp less but also circa 60k less (and also too close to secondhand mp4-12c's - they'll be hard to shift I'd have thought)

Shame they couldn't have done a junior supercar with say 450bhp/1400kg and at 100k to target more of the 911 range, but then what do I know! I do think the whole model strategy/naming/pricing/releases of the mp4-12c/12c/650 and now this has been amateurish, you'd have hoped they'd have had it all planned out rather better in advance of launching anything.

Any ideas what the actual DIN weight is likely to be?

All manufacturers should be forced to quote DIN weight, on standard cars with no optional extras.

Are you sure it's not a glade air freshener ? , think styling is nice and would have this and not spend extra on 650.

Sorry, but for what it's worth (not much !) I'd just say it looks ok, like one of the better Japanese fashion conscious pocket rockets.....Whereas 20 years ago they had the F1 which stopped everyone in their tracks, petrol head or not. It just seemed so right, and multiple wins at Le Mans proved that it really was RIGHT !!
Would you care to put an actual number to that "multiple"?

I am really disappointed....its the same car as the 650S with a detuned motor. In fact its a residual value killer for the 650S....I was hoping for something special not the same car with a different name....

The suspension isn't quite the same. Will a base 991 with a turbo (as it will have very soon) a residual killer for a 991 Turbo?

To be fair, if you had read anything about the development of this car you would have known it was going to be based on an evolution of the structure from the 650 and have a development of the same basic engine. It is pretty special really, other than an Alfa 4C what else can you but for £145k that has a full carbon structure?

Surprising they aren't offering a manual.

In the 570S EVO video Henry Catchpole hints at a 540C coming in the near future. Maybe this will be smaller than the 650S, must admit I'm surprised this thing is bigger! confused

That will still be a Sports Series so the same as this but with 540hp presumably. Mike Flewitt has said there would be two variations both starting with 5, hence my earlier question about whether the 570 was the lower or higher powered version. Haven't watched the evo video yet.

570S at £145,000 plus options (say £15,000 for 'essentials')
540C at £135,000 plus options.

I understand both are the same car with different specs/tunes, ie. 570ps and 540ps.

I'm surprised both are bigger than the 12C and 650S which it's meant to replace as a more practical daily driver??

I was having fun with a few Hs at VMAX a few days ago. Stunning design but even then knowing its an R8 in drag takes the gloss away a bit. They were unbelievably quick at launching VBOX 3.1s 60mph and 6.5s to 100mph all day. Top speeds of well in excess of 205 mph run after run all day. Even gave a 918 a run for its money!

Also slowed enough to make the first turn from 200 plus in the damp Jesus

I struggled in mine at 160 in dry.

The 'growth' on the top is obviously a B&W Nautilus tweeter unit, combined with the fact the speakers can be seen through the grille's are clearly yellow, which is another B&W trademark, I would happily bet that without the premium B&W stereo optioned the appendage would not be there.

Personally I think its fantastic that McL are using a world class British HiFi brand in their world class British motor, and whilst I agree with the proposed argument of listening to the engine and exhaust note and not bothering with music etc, given this car is aimed squarely at a certain turbo wagon from Stuttgart, and the latest 4 ringed output from Ingolstadt for the slim market of 'everyday supercar' etc etc, the option is probably definitely required.

I've been waiting patiently for this to be released. Have loved the others in the range, but was perhaps most interested in the 'everyday' Mclaren. Not for me to buy now, but to have as my aspirational target.

Current target is an Evora 400. The talk of the dimensions will kill this in my opinion. It simply has to be smaller than the 650s to work as a daily. Otherwise the size alone will make it a massive pain when finding a parking space, or enjoying it on the road.

I really, really hope something has been lost in translation, as it would be massively annoying for the makers of the F1, with it's wonderful blend of small size, decent luggage space and stonking power to have ignored the benefits on the road a relatively narrow width and minimal overhangs provide.
